The 3600 acre park is one of the largest municipal parks in the U-S. It stretches for miles from close to Chico's downtown (One Mile Area) to well up into the foothills miles out of town where nude swimming is tolerated in the cold waters of Chico creek. The park offers miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails and paths some of which are paved while others are dirt and more suited for trail bikes. A portion of the natural creek has been cemented and dammed to create a large area for swimming safely in the flowing creek waters. Bidwell Park is so beautiful it was used as a substitute for the English countryside the 1938 action classic, "The Adventures of Robin Hood" starring Erroll Flynn highlighted by the famous duel between Robin Hood and Little John staged over Chico Creek which is at the center of the park and provides water for the hundreds of stately mature California oak trees and dozens of other plants that make the park so special. Read moreThis one-mile plus stretch of Annie Bidwells garden holds so many varieties of trees, shrubs, and flowers that are nested and inhabitated by countless birds and insects. You can hear the harmonic song of this preserved area all day and night. There are horse trails that run alongside a car/bike/run/walk path. The bike trails run from end to end and offer beginner and intermediate off-path trails that are not preset, but very random in the way of as, you can end up on a different pathway everyturn. The pathway runs up and down big chico creek and is absolutely beautiful picnic sites offer individual BBQ pits strung along both paths. This then runs down into a man-built pool for the whole town to take a dip in during hot days. Or if you're brave, a polar bear dip every 1st of the year is held for those who think they are polar bears. Beautiful. Read moreThe "One Mile" Sycamore Pool in Bidwell Park has been a popular tourist attraction since the summer of 1493 when Christopher Columbus accidentally discovered the Chico area during his final voyage to discover the Chapmantown Islands. The bridge that traverses the pool, can be found on the North side of the park adjacent to Vallanbrosia Road. This man-made swimming hole is known for some of it's unique indigenous plants and animals, such as the orange capped syringe plant, as well as the amphibious common floating hobo brown trout.

Life guards are only present during some of the summer months, and might be of service to you right after they text their girlfriend.
