Americana at it's best. Now, I didn't grow up on drive-in movies as some of my so-cal native friends did, so it'd long been on my bucket list of things to try. When a good friend took me, it was everything I'd thought it would be, with all these quirks that make it something everyone should try at least once.
Ticket prices: $9 for 2 movies.
The movies play on the same screen, back to back. The movies are typically of the same genre. Some ppl movie hop over to a different screen, but I was happy with our movies so we parked, kicked up our feet, set our radio station to 107.7 to listen in, and uncorked our $4.99 liquor store merlot. And what an awesome night. Mexican food and cheap wine, and I was a happy girl!
You pull into one of the slots, or just find your way in amongst the scattered obstacles of people in lawn chairs and suvs having makeshift tailgates out of the trunk. You park and make sure you can see the screen as the light begins to fall. The movie starts when it's dark enough, and then everything just comes alive.
You sit in your car with your crew, eating, drinking, talking or not, doing whatever you want, because you're in your own car with enough privacy and quiet that you won't bother that many people. Just don't get too crazy, it is a family place with lots of kids around.
Facilities were decent. Bathroom lines in-between the movies were long, but went quick, and I had no issue getting back to the car by the time the second movie started up. Didn't partake in the food, but it looked like standard fare American movie food/hot dogs, nachos, popcorn. I much preferred (and recommend) you go our route and bring your own picnic (even if it's just a bean and cheese burrito and cheap wine).
Loved my movie night experience, and cannot wait...
Read moreAwesome place with plenty of spots available. Great for social distancing! Went here with my GF as my first ever drive-in movie theater experience! Sound quality was decent and the screen was a bit dim at times, but other than that, it was very enjoyable. My only real complaint were these absolutely inconsiderate people. They drove in with their lights on about 35 minutes into the movie. They parked directly in front of us which blocked a corner of the screen. As soon as they got there they opened their door and their kid/grandma got out to get concessions only this exchange of getting out took way too long. About 20 minutes later, this family starts vaping with their windows rolled down, so the smoke blows directly into our faces. We knocked on their window to please tell them to stop. They did for a little, but since they weren't annoying us anymore, they felt they needed something else to disrupt the movie. About 30 minutes later, they turned on their brake lights AND headlights. This got the attention of 4 cars around us who were all turning around while sticking their head out of the window trying to get them to turn their car off. People are literally shouting at them to turn their lights off because you really can't see the screen with them on. So again, my GF knocked on their window and told them that other people were also annoyed by their lights. They finally turned them off. They also opened the car a few more times for bathroom. (There were a lot of kids in there) and one kid even opened up the car door to throw a piece of garbage under their car. They get a 0/10 for worst guests I've ever seen. Great...
Read moreI didn't like to go to this drive in growing up because of how there didn't seem to be any enforceable rules so that's what I was expecting when my family went there the other night. I was very impressed with how they were dealing with social distancing right now. They had ushers guiding you to the ticket booths when you got there. They had signs that said "No Mask. No Service." When we paid for the tickets, the person told us that we have to be 1 car length away from each car. We were one of the first cars in so we got a good spot. My sister went to go to the restroom and she said there was even a person making sure the restroom and line didn't get too crowded. There was also social distancing Covid Guidelines in multiple languages on the screen before the trailers started. When the movie was about to start, the lot was getting almost filled up and there actually was a couple employees guiding cars to move when they parked too close to your car for social distancing. After the movie, they made sure to go on their station channels to tell all of us where the closest exit was for us. Overall, I was very impressed with how much Vineland turned around with enforcing their rules. We will absolutely be back here once another good movie comes around.
BTW, We watched Willy's Wonderland which is a pretty...
