I lived in Rochester for 6 years and I can’t believe I missed this place while I was there. Stopped here during a recent visit and was blown away. They’re allegedly one of the “Top 10 Hot Dog Joints In America,” though I have not fact-checked that and I don’t plan to. True or not, the food is incredible. I’m particularly impressed by their commitment to having great vegetarian and vegan options. You don’t really see that at many hot dog joints. Don’t worry, meat lovers: they have everything you could possibly want. But they also have everything non-meat lovers could possibly want from a place like this. And it’s ALL delicious, meat and non-meat alike. It’s small. Seating and parking can be difficult if it’s busy. If it’s nice outside, the outdoor seating has a relaxing vibe. In my experience, the staff was as friendly and accommodating as their diverse menu. There are so many great places to get food in Rochester (probably the #1 thing I miss about living there). I’m glad I discovered this one I missed before and I’ve already recommended to others outside of this review where I recommend it to YOU.

The “Heid’s” of Rochester, sort of. Cute little building tucked in a cozy spot off of Monroe Avenue. Outdoor seating is ample parking is good. Zweigel’s hot dogs make up the foundation for some very unique creations. I was certainly impressed with the pairings of different food combinations that make up the cute names for their unique menu. They sounded absolutely delicious. The vegetarian options are fantastic, my girl is a vegetarian, so this makes a good place for omnivore and vegetarian couples. There are only two negatives I could say about Dogtown. One is if you’re a regular New Yorker don’t expect a “normal” hotdog. Rochester has a thing for being different and Zweigel hot dogs are giant, fat, not very tasty sausage size hot dogs. These aren’t Nathan’s or Hoffman’s. I probably would have grabbed a hotdog had they served a different brand more accustomed to the taste and size of the rest of New York. So Expect a different taste and texture of casing in your mouth to say the least. The next would be their meat sauce for their garbage plate. WAAAAAY too hot. If you’re trying a Rochester garbage plate for the first time SKIP this place. You’ll burn your face off and not taste the good food underneath. If you want a authentic plate save your visit for Steve T’s or Nick Tahoe’s.

Heard about this place alot and you guys know me if you read my reviews...27 years in the food industry and 15 as a cuisine chef... Phenomenal... effing Phenomenal...epic in so many ways... had the southern hound dog and a plate... the coleslaw on the dog had CELERY SEED in it.. I'm from the south and I tell peeps "you have to put the celery seed in the slaw mannnn" the bun was 🔥.. bread makes everything come together and if the bread sucks then it ruins it...THIS BREAD DOES NOT SUCK... ok the plate ... I had the 3 meat for 15.50????? Andouille sausage, itslian sausage and a cheeseburger.. the seasoned fried potato were so perfect and the MAC SALAD OMGAWD... just perfect and I also loved the fact that it's quaint and not huge inside and the tables are long and you sit next to fellow customers and never know? You just might make a friend ❤️ it was a great experience .first time but DEFINITELY not my last

I've made it my mission to review every "plate" in WNY, and Dogtown is one of the best. I had a 3 meat plate. I usually get two cheese burgers, but going to a place called Dogtown, I had to try a dog. For me, the dog was just another hot dog, but their cheese burger was one of the best I've had in a long time. Their fries were good, and their meat sauce is on point. The Mac salad was nothing special, but it wasn't bad. My mom also got their dog of the day, and she loved it. I live about 35 minutes from this place and would make the drive to try more of their menu. When we arrived shortly after they opened, we were the only ones there. By the time we finished eating, the place was packed, and with only 5 employees on, they handled things beautifully (fast food joints often have double that staff, and you still have to wait for your food). Excellent job, Dogtown and staff!

I LOVE Dogtown and they have been my favorite plate spot for years now. But, I went there last night to get a plate for my birthday. I don’t know if it was because we ordered 2 plates or it was the extra meat sauce but the to go containers ripped on the way home inside the bag. Grease through the plastic bag and they leaked onto my floor mats. You’d think that when having such a messy menu item you might have special to go containers just for that item. Doesn’t need to be plastic or anything like that because I think what they currently use is biodegradable or something. Which is awesome but, I’d like to eat my meal from the container I ordered it in or at least have enough time to move it into a dish. Might be helpful to put foil down or some sort of liner to keep things together. Should mention both ripped at the bottom.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Dogtown in Rochester, New York, and it was truly a delightful experience. The menu boasts a wide array of options, from various hotdogs to sandwiches, but what drew me in was the quintessential Rochester staple - the junkyard plate. This dish did not disappoint, featuring a hotdog and a hamburger patty served over a bed of delicious sides like fries and macaroni salad, topped with a unique sauce that elevated the flavors to a whole new level. The availability of a parking lot, as well as nearby street parking, made it convenient to visit. The staff was friendly, and the food arrived promptly. Overall, a solid dining experience at Dogtown!
