The National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame is a great museum that documents the history and thrill of horse racing in the United States. It is located in Saratoga because Saratoga has the oldest horse racing track in the nation. The museum consists of a few galleries and each one has unique artifacts and memorabilia. It should appeal to both a major horse racing fan and those who have only a slight interest in it. The museum’s movie on the thrill of horse racing is a must see. The film is narrated by Bob Costas and will give a feel for what you’re about to see in the museum. Be sure to see the Triple Crown Trophy near the front of the museum. Go through the starting gate they have and learn about the early history of horse racing in the US. Perhaps, some of the most unique displays are the chairs and scales they used for weighing jockeys. Along with this jockey silks from throughout the history of horse racing are along the walls. Also, the origin of the horse racing “purse” is explained. Currently, they have an exhibit on Triple Crown winner Secretariat. Lots to see in this display. A statue of Secretariat can be seen in the middle of the museum as well. Outside of the museum is a well put together display of jockey statues. The gift shop is well stocked and you can go there without purchasing a ticket to the museum. Not sure if the museum has more attendance during the racing season, but during the offseason only a few people were there. Stop by to see the museum when...

The National Museum of Racing is a must-visit stop on our annual family trip to the Adirondacks — my husband and I make a point to visit every year, and it never disappoints. The museum is easy to find and always so well organized, with thoughtfully curated exhibits and an incredible wealth of information about the history and evolution of horse racing in America.

The staff are consistently kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable, which makes every visit feel special. We especially enjoy chatting with them and sharing stories about our own horses — it’s always a thrill to recognize familiar lineage or bloodlines featured in the displays. The museum strikes a wonderful balance between honoring the sport's past and celebrating its present, making it enjoyable for both long-time horse lovers and newcomers alike.

Whether you're a racing enthusiast, equestrian, or just someone who appreciates history and beautiful animals, this museum is a gem in Saratoga Springs. We always leave inspired and can’t wait to...

Whether you are a horse racing fan or not, a stop at this museum and Hall of Fame is a must if you are visiting Saratoga Springs, NY. If you are downtown, drop by the Visitor's Centre and pick up a free pass to the museum. Otherwise entry was pretty reasonable.

Within you will see bronze sculptures of the most famous race horses (including Secretariat and Seabiscuit). History on the trainers, jockeys and the sport of horse racing.

There are banners for each Triple Crown winner and trophies of famous races throughout the US.

Search the lineage of famous racehorses or even ride on a simulated race horse (check out the photos). Jockeys have said, it's a fairly authentic ride!

I thoroughly enjoyed my leisure walk through the museum but my favorite part were all the jockeys out front.

Just a block from the Saratoga Racetrack, you'll love this small but...

This was my favorite museum in Saratoga! The movie theater is amazing. You have to see the 16 minute film! It’s an experience not to be missed. The museum staff are all very helpful, engaging, and friendly. They will guide you around if you would like. I even saw one helping to jump a visitors car in the lot. Outside the museum is a beautiful little garden with fountain. There’s also a neat row of jockey statues. Inside the museum you will see the history from colonial days to the present. There’s even a kids, hands on, area for playing where they can groom a horse, wear racing silks and ride a pretend horse and more. The museum is around the corner from the training grounds for the track where you can watch them practice early in the morning.
