It is a really lovely park. It has several Springs with funky tasting water and it has a spit and spat fountains and has some beautiful sculptures and it has what used to be a casino, I think it used to be casino now it's Museum and I think they have parties. It has a beautiful Pond that has lots of ducks. I just wish the last time I realized and remembered that ducks poop because I let my dog walk around where the ducks were and she rolled in their poop and she was messy. She was ecstatically happy, I don't know why but she was horribly messy. But she enjoyed the park and I enjoyed the park. The park has a cute little Carousel it's fun to go on rides. It's just a lovely place to go and eat lunch or spend the day or even an hour. They have some lovely trees. I mentioned spit and spat Fountain before I feel like I'm an Alice in Wonderland the end of August because it's got these little Pine trees and it's got the canna lilies that are really tall and it's got I think catalpa trees that they topped off and they're have giving leaves. So normally pine trees are tall but these are small and normally flowers are small but these are tall and normally that catalpa tree is huge but these are small and their leaves are huge so everything's all mixed up and it's like another world and then spits that are spewing water at each other. And they have a little area with a fountain surrounded by hedges and roses in the hedge areas. The roses smell lovely. Even if you don't have time to go for a walk if you have your lunch pull your car in, park eat your lunch it's just a nice...
Read moreHistoric Congress Park, a tranquil park in the heart of downtown. You haven't visited Saratoga Springs until you've strolled the grounds, viewed the fountains and statues, and tasted the mineral water. There are three mineral springs all different - Columbian, the historic Congress, and Deer Park springs. Actually four if you count Hathorn #1 which is just across the street from the carousel on the corner. That water is highly carbonated and rich in minerals so quite strong tasting. Saratoga DPW has done a wonderful job improving and maintaining the grounds and the improvement over the last 30yrs is remarkable. There are several fountains, ponds, a small brook, and many ducks - do not feed!!! Be sure to visit the Canfield Casino which also is home to the Saratoga Springs History Museum. The Spirit of Life statue and pool is fascinating - the statue was designed by Daniel French, the same who designed the statue of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. There is also the nearby Civil War memorial statue and the gazebo on the pond by the Casino which is now the War Memorial. The Marylou Whitney Centennial Park and statue is at the east edge of Congress Park, just at the end of the road past the casino. There is more beautiful statuary and water features in the Italian Gardens beside the carousel. You could easily spend an entire afternoon exploring Congress Park. A peaceful park rich in history, the heart of Saratoga. If you see nothing else, visit...
Read moreDate of visit: Saturday July 8th Gorgeous park with a Carousel Our first stop in Saratoga Springs was to the Visitor information centre (across the street from Congress Park), and the lovely ladies there advised us to check out the Park. We checked it out right away. The park is gorgeous, well landscaped, beautiful gated entrance. The park has a lovely walking trail to explore it all. There are a number of sculptures, ponds, and a creek running through it. The main attraction is the Spring water fountains that many tourists come to to try the natural spring water that the city is famous for. There is a carousel within the park that was carved by Marcus Charles Illinois. As avid lovers of carousels, we wanted to take a ride, but the carousel is cash only and we didn’t have any cash on us. Plan to bring cash if you visit so you can ride the carousel. The Italian Gardens at one end are beautiful and have a number of statues. There are bird houses throughout the park. This is a gorgeous first stop when you visit Saratoga, but don’t forget to check out the Saratoga Springs History Museum on property as well. This park would also be a great location to enjoy a picnic lunch. There is parking inside the park – but it is limited and very tightly monitored. If you park in a spot that is not authorized you will get a ticket within...
