My girlfriend and I have eaten here to much enjoyment in the past, but our most recent experience has all but nullified our opinion of this restaurant.
We arrived and ordered an hour before closing time and were enjoying ourselves, but shortly after the service started to feel more and more pushy, as at the time we were the last ones in the restaurant (which is understandable at first but it was a Saturday and other people did show up before we left). Examples of this hurrying service include asking if we need a box for our food not 15 minutes after we received our entrees and providing and taking the check not 5 minutes after that while we were still eating. Each of these were asked of us twice, as there were two servers that ran through this routine without seemingly knowing that the other was doing the same which really didn't give us much time to ourselves for the meal.
This was a relatively special night for us and we had had near-flawless experiences in the past, so we were quite surprised at the sudden drop in service quality. We're also both pretty easygoing, so we were able to easily shrug off what happened and try to focus on the meal and conversation. However, when we got the check and card back we were still feeling pressured to hurry and get out the door (around half an hour before closing at this point). In this moment, we had accidentally written down a lower tip than we would usually give. A few minutes after the tip receipt was taken back, we were directly confronted by one of the servers asking if there was anything particularly wrong with the service. After happily saying no, we were shamelessly informed that our tip was low, followed by a direct question of why it was so low (approximately 2-3 dollars short of what would've been a standard gratuity amount). After answering that it was likely just a quick mathematical error on our part, the server gave the receipt back and asked us to fix it, only walking away after about 10 seconds of awkward silence between the three of us, because we were still only about 60% finished with our meals. We went to fix the bill, but realized that the server hadn't even left a pen at the table for us to correct our error with. Even after the server walked away, the three staff members who were in the dining room were looking in our direction the entire time. After a few minutes of this, we decided that it'd be best to avoid furthering the confrontation and exited as soon as possible.
Look, I'm not claiming to be without fault or have the unwavering moral high ground in this situation, but I believe that among the (artificially) many opportunities to provide good service, that service was satisfactory and non-invasive a small percentage of the time. I shouldn't have to qualify this by saying I've worked in the service industry for 4 years, but it's not a good sign when the staff is less respectful than the customer. This was very embarrassing and was even worse to see one of our usual places turn out to be this disappointing of an experience.
All above sections of the review would typically sum to be a 2 or 3 star for me, but after we got home my girlfriend and I both had upset stomachs after ordering the same dish. I hope that this experience was a fluke, but based upon it cannot currently recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an...

Update... Still look for reasons to be in the area for lunch here. Always really good. Don't be afraid to try it. I suspect that you will enjoy whatever you order. -17 June 14
Update... I have been here now six or seven times for lunch. It is consistently great. I recently ate at another Indian restaurant and found it to be way over spiced. They get it right here every time. This has grown to be my favorite lunch spot in Saratoga. - 5 Nov 2013
Sept 2013 This time I had another lamb dish, not the curry special. It was really good! I have also had the lamb curry, and the mango chicken, both really great. Medium on the spices each time. I am not a regular at Indian restaurants so I don't have much to compare it with, but each time I really enjoyed my meal! I thought everything was fresh and had really good flavors. Also they were quick to bring out my lunch, and as a busy person I appreciate being able to get in and out in a timely manner. Each time I have been here, I observed that the place was clean. The bathrooms in many small places can be a problem, however I was pleasantly surprised when I washed up before sitting down that the restrooms were well stocked and incredibly clean. I will be...

We reached at 8:25 pm.. we were seated promptly. We were barely settling down and within 2 mins we were told (rudely) that restaurant closes at 9 pm and we should order in next 5 mins or so to be out by 9. I told them that I checked the closing time on their website (and google) before coming in and it says 9:30. But they said they WILL be closing at 9. My suggestion please change the hours on your website and google
The food was jush meh.. we ordered medium spicy. The spices just lacked the balance. a. Aaloo Tikki - have never seen Aaloo Tikki like this (see pictures). Just the tikkis. no ragda, no chutney.. when we asked for chutney we were given the indo-chinese cuisine cutneys. what a joke...! b. Biryani - we ordered 2 and barely had a spoon. was not fresh.. was sprinkled with a lot of raisins (kishmish) c. Kadai Paneer - tasted like they used canned tomatoes d. Daal Makhani - was ok e. Malai Kofta - was cold, not fresh and definitely refrigerated f. Butter garlic naan - this is the reason for 2 stars. Naan were really good.. soft and melting in your mouth
All in all waste of money. I guess the restaurant is a bit too Americanized for an India restaurant?? Do share your...
