Haven't been to a Regal Cinema in well over three years so this was my first time back to see how they're competing against Movie Tavern in Camillus.
Theater: Theater was clean and the chairs are new but not sure if they were the reclining type since I couldn't find a button. However you were still pack in like passengers in coach class on airline with no elbow room and barely enough leg room to stretch out. Advantage: Movie Tavern
Concessions: Still on the outside of the theater and menu was broken up all over the place. Took me a while to find the items I wanted but I found it to be lacking. If you wanted anything you still had to leave the theater and miss portions of the movie. Advantage: Movie Tavern
Concessions Price: Cheaper and had value bundles for popcorn and drinks. Not sure about the ordered stuff since I didn't get any bit you had to stay there to get it. Advantage: Draw on Price
Picture and sound: No complaints. On par with Movie Tavern. Advantage: Draw
Employees: Cold and disconnected. College age girl checking tickets was too busy on her phone and didn't look like she wanted to be there to even acknowledge our presence. Employees on the concession stand were fast to ask of we've been helped but that's about it. Advantage: Movie Tavern
All and all Movie Tavern maybe more expansive but the selection is far superior to Regal and you'll have a better cinematic experience especially with...
Read moreI unfortunately cannot recommend Regal Destiny USA in Syracuse. Not the brand I usually use but am traveling for work and wanted to see Shazam. The two employees we interacted with were fine; friendly in fact. They weren't the problem. It's a corporate issue.
We went to see the movie in IMAX because that was the best time for our schedule. $17?For what, exactly? I guess the screen was bigger than a normal screen; couldn't tell any difference in picture quality than the cinema I normally go to. The sound was ridiculously loud. The decibel level was off the charts and piercing; not big and immersive. I ended up stuffing a piece of napkin in my ears. As many action movies as I've seen in theaters, I've never had to do that before. One of the people I was with actually went to alert theater staff but there was no discernable difference. The seats were okay but not loungers like my cinema (which is cheaper, btw even though it's in a larger metropolitan area).
I expect concessions at a movie theater to be expensive; this was next level. The premium draft beer I had the previous night in the same mall was cheaper than a small fountain drink at the theater. Seriously. An overall disappointing experience that soured me on the movie a bit (though...
Read moreLet me start by saying that the movie itself, Inside Out 2, was good for all ages.
Now let me say that the prices were outrageous. We have a Regal Club card. It's old style so we have obviously been members since the cards first came out. 2 seniors with a membership card and a $10 gift card... STILL paid $33.44 for a movie, ONE popcorn, and ONE plain iced tea (sharing the latter 2 items). $43.44 is ridiculous!
Why would people be loyal to Regal islf there is no benefit, no discount, no incentive? Your greed is pricing itself out of business. There was only one other family in the theatre.
Now let me tell you about the seats. The chart that was showed us at the concession counter AND the one showed our daughter and family at the box office were identical AND incorrect. We selected the row directly behind the aisle; whuch was row "E" on the screen. When we entered the theatre, that row was marked "G". Our seat were down below; where a mop bucket and caution cone sat directly behind us.
You can do much better, REGAL! Whether this site or another.. maybe yiu should check with the public to see how make going to the movies a "family fun & full...
