My wife and I took our 17 month daughter here, and we had a great time. I was surprised to find out they charged for both parents, but I considered it worth the time. Since our daughter was on the younger side of the child age spectrum, we stayed mainly in the toddler section. We had a blast and enjoyed our visit very much, but I have two issues I'd really like to see addressed.
Unfortunately, some of the bigger kids would run into the toddler section, throw cushions around aimlessly, and climb over little ones trying to make their own way around. They weren't in there for more than 10 minutes at a time, and a couple were older siblings just helping their little brother or sister move around, which was sweet, but some other bigger kids had complete disregard for the little ones. It was all I could do not to pick up someone else's kid by the ankle for nearly whacking my daughter in the head with a cushion he was swinging around. Thank goodness he missed, otherwise I'd likely be facing some pretty serious charges. I'd like to see more discretion from the parents to keep their older children from roughhousing in the toddler section, but I'd also appreciate a little effort from the staff as well, of which there was none that I saw when we went.
My second issue was the family restroom. Our visit was met with bad timing, poor floor plan layout, and inconsideration. After playing for about an hour, my daughter graced us with a stinky surprise. We found the restrooms in the back easy enough, but there was only one family restroom, which was occupied, and neither the men's nor women's bathroom had a changing station in it. I found that ridiculous for a children's entertainment establishment, and think that should be resolved immediately. It really wouldn't have been a problem, had it not been for a different family that was in the family restroom for longer than 20 minutes. This is not an exaggeration, I unfortunately kept track after I knocked and they refused to allow us to use it. While I understand daiper blowouts as much as the next parent, their behavior was very rude. True, their behavior is not the fault of the establishment, but this wouldn't have been an issue if we had another place to change our daughter. Enough was enough, and my wife brought her into the women's room and changed her right next to the sink. Not surprisingly she was out before the family restroom was vacant.
Please, Billy Beez, apply just a little supervision around the toddler section, and add changing stations in the other bathrooms. I don't think I'm being unreasonable. We really did have a good time otherwise, and will...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to have our sons 1st birthday here. Although it's not necessarily meant for babies, each baby is different and ours loves being around other kids, mostly older ones. He also can crawl and stumble around just as fast as them and doesn't cry if he gets bumped. So if your child is a whiner, I would advise against taking them here. I saw a previous reviewer upset that they didn't have a specific gated off area (which they do) to take their "27 month old" first of all, never take advice from someone that calls a two year old by months. Secondly, if your two year old can't keep up with the rest of all the kids there then that's a whole different problem and shouldn't be blamed on this wonderful establishment.
Billy Beez is a great place for your kids to burn off energy and get away from iPads/iPods/iPhones/iThink Kids Are Technology Zombies. They actually are encouraged to use their imaginations and interact with other human beings. The average age I saw from my own several experiences at Billy Beez, is around 7 years old. They do have a separate, very small area (about 25 sq ft) for younger kids/ babies that have a smaller scaled playground. Many parents only feel comfortable with keeping away the more rowdy children and staying in this one spot. They also have a rock wall, trampoline, small basketball courts with softer balls, endless amounts of tunnels, open slides, enclosed slides, netted bridges, short slides, steep slides, a really long rainbow racing slide, a ball area that as a fountain of balls that shoot into the air with air cannons that also can shoot them out (these balls are very soft and my baby doesn't get phased when one pops him on the head). They also have little scooters and a race track that surrounds 23,000 sq ft. of the wonderful world of Billy Beez. This place is amazing. When we had our sons party, somehow the cake was dropped. They did everything to make it better including giving us longer time in our reserved private party room, and ordered a new cake to be rushed immediately to us. Our personal party staff member was so great an kept up with everything. The entire staff was extremely accommodating and really cared that not only my husband and I were happy, but all of our 35 guests as well. If I had to choose a complaint, it would definitely be the pricing. It is on the more expensive side, but when you see the smiles of your children's faces, it's all worth it. Not to mention, admission covers the entire day not just a few hours. Re-entry...
Read moreWe were visiting Syracuse and need someplace to entertain the kids for a while and since the mall didn't have a free play area, we happen upon Billy Beez. I was at first put of buy the cost and some of the rules but in retrospect can appreciate them.
For context we have a 2 and 4 year old and they both loved it and played for 2 hours. We were there on a busy day at the mall to (labor day with the New York fair nearby, with temperatures outside around 90 degrees).
First alot of people have noted the cost and the fact you pay for any adult on the play floor. I could see where adults being free would cause alot of issues. One of the great things was that the construction is open enough and strong enough to allow me (and other parents) to track with there child through the play area and play with them instead of burying my face in my phone. I love playing with my kids and I got to help my 2 year old try new things and there are several slides he would not have gone down on his own. After 2 hours I was exhausted and my knees hurt, but being able to experience it with your kids made it so worth it. Good workout to.
The cost kept down the number of kids playing so it didn't ever feel crowded. And charging for adults in the play area keeps out any superfluous adults that are just there to hang out and the adults who were in the play area were more likely to be playing with there kids instead of clogging up the passage ways. Groups of adults everywhere can also be intimidating to kids, especially if they are just there to chat and take up space. The concessions were ridiculously priced and the coffee is horrible, but I think that is expected (kind of like concessions at the movies).
After we paid we found out the kids and me as the adult had to have on socks, so we paid $6 for 3 pairs of socks from them. This annoyed me at first but then I thought I would prefer everyone wearing socks anyways, and accepted it was bad planning on our part.
Getting in and out takes sometime with the wrist scanning, but worth it for the added safety of my kids. It assures your kids can leave with anyone else.
I would go again, but will remember...
