New Place Organic Day Spa | Head Scalp,Couple Massage, Body Scrub — Attraction in Cliffside Park

I am going to be that one person that has a different experience.

I found this place online today and saw a good rating. I called and felt apprehensive because the communication was not fluid due to a language barrier. I have no issues with this. I am a refugee myself and English is not my first language but it gave me pause as to what to actually expect. I made an appointment for a facial over the phone for 1PM and also booked it online.

The place is SPOTLESS and feels very relaxing with the background music. There was a clipboard with disclaimers, which are standard in these types of establishments, so I offered to complete it but was told I did not have to.

I was led to my room in the back and was impressed with how clean and big the place is. I got ready and the aesthetician came in. There was only a quick greeting and no discussion about what I was looking for or any of the standard questions I have been asked prior to a facial over the past 36 years that I have been getting them.

Shortly after getting started someone opened the door an had a very brief conversation with the aesthetician working on me then left the door open, eventually the aesthetician closed it and we went on. She was very gentle with the massaging which I really enjoyed.

There were NO extractions at all! Maybe 60 seconds of steam and a tool was used to gently scrape my t-zone presumably to remove dead skin cells. It was NOT extraction at all.

This is not an organic spa in the sense of USDA organic products.

While the mask was on, when it is customary to get a chest and arm massage, I got a brief 40 second on the left arm and 30 second on the right arm massage with NO lubricant! I did get a nice leg massage for about 1 to 2 minutes total between both sides over the blanket I was covered with.

At a point about halfway through someone AGAIN opened the door. This time there was back and forth conversation in a language other than English that was quite disruptive to my experience and went on for a bit. The door was ONCE AGAIN left open. This time even more ajar. I had to ask twice to please close the door. Finally, there was a THIRD time at the end that the door was once again opened. Thankfully, we were done at this point though I was still laying down. The three interruptions really marred the relaxation and felt intrusive into what should have been a relaxing and private experience.

When I was leaving I spoke to the aesthetician that did my facial, a man seating at the reception desk, who had not been there when I checked in, and a second woman, whom I am pretty certain was the one that kept interrupting. I explained in a very calm manner how disturbing the interruptions had been and commented that I was concerned because I had pre-paid before starting for 3 services to come back and I did not want to go through that again. I think it took some time to understand what I was saying and ultimately the lady that I think kept interrupting said sorry and nothing else was said.

If I had to do it all over again, I would not have requested to pay upfront and would have just paid for the one facial and left. I still gave a very appropriate gratuity because the situation, other than no extraction and the lack of lubricant for the arm massage (and the brevity of it) was not really the fault of the aesthetician.

I am hopeful that I will be able to use my credit for two more services for a massage rather than a facial because ultimately the facial was nothing more than an hour massage of my face with various products (no meaningful steam time and no extractions). Lastly, over the countless facials I have gotten all over NJ, other states, and even in some European countries, I have always left with a dewey complexion but I left here with my skin feeling and looking exactly the same as when I arrived.

I wanted to give this spa a full 5 stars, but due to a few issues during our visit, I’m giving it 3. I first discovered this spa on TikTok—it looked amazing, so I sent it to my husband and asked him to book us a much-needed couple’s spa day.

We arrived about five minutes late because of parking, but the staff was very welcoming when we got there. We signed a quick waiver and were offered wine, water, or tea, which was a nice touch. The room setup was beautiful, and the jacuzzi was definitely my favorite part. We spent 30 minutes soaking, followed by a 1 hour and 45-minute massage.

Here’s where things took a turn. As soon as we finished the jacuzzi, we were rushed into the massage room—even though we were still damp and trying to get ourselves together. My husband really enjoyed his massage, but unfortunately, mine wasn’t the best. The person massaging me didn’t check in about the pressure until 30 minutes in, and only after the other massage therapist asked my husband. By then, I had already felt like it was a little too rough. Maybe I was tense, but I still wish she had been more attentive and asked me about my preferences from the start.

Also, I’m not a fan of hot stones—and I’m pretty sure my husband mentioned that when booking—but they used them anyway, which was disappointing. After our session, we noticed a few leftover items in the room, like shoes, someone’s soap, and hair accessories. It gave the impression that the space hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned before our appointment. On top of that, when we put on the robes, they had an unpleasant, musty odor—almost like they hadn’t been properly washed. The mildew-like smell was definitely off-putting and took away from the relaxing vibe we were hoping for.

Overall, the ambiance was beautiful and the concept of the experience was great, but the attention to detail and level of care during our session could have been better.
