Istanbul Borek & Kebab — Restaurant in Cliffside Park

The food here is great but had to lower rating because of service. The food is delicious and fresh. The Shepard salad is amazing and the chicken chop perfectly cooked. It's BYOB which makes it even better.

Service is usually good but yesterday our waitress needed to be sent home. Her head was in the clouds and she is a liar. Unfortunately i didn't ask for her name as I forgot wit the aggravation. I asked for diet Coke with ice and she brought regular no ice. No big deal, I just asked her to change it. she came back with regular Pepsi (still no ice). She went back a third time and came back with no ice. I placed my order and told her what i wanted and even described it (chicken chop aka chicken thighs). She said yes i got it. she came back with the wrong plate. I reminded her i asked for thighs and she said oh you didn't order that but we are out of it anyway. Mind you i didn't get ice until asking two more times. I asked another server about the chicken thighs and he said of course we have it! and he placed an order to go. After that we never heard or saw from the waitress again. She needs to be fired for being a liar. Just admit to the mistake and replace the dish - i was willing to wait and was polite with her. the place wasn't even busy. About 5 tables and there...

I have been a regular customer at this place for a long time since the restaurant was located in Palisade Avenue. To be really honest I have mainly gone there for lunches and brunches because I never liked the stuff they provide for dinner even though I tried it many times. However, the restaurant has been going down the hill for a while now. Service is not anywhere where used to be, still remember the nice kind people that used to work over there and have moved to better places. Prices!! (Forget about it!) We're talking about 75% increase in some items in a matter of 2-3 years. For instance : Until about 2 years ago the price of a Borek was 7.50 and then they raised it to 8.95 but TODAY I can't believe that I paid 11.95 for a borek. UNBELIEVABLE! --- It's a freaking borek for God's sake.. No wonder its always empty unless its a Saturday or Sunday brunch when they can't even give you proper service. I hope that the owner gets to see this and I would like to directly tell him that : My friend, I know that you have made some really bad financial choices in the past regarding this Restaurant but the Customer does not have to pay for your choices and that's why I'm not going to come over anymore even though I have been coming frequently for the last 6-7...

Food was great, but the serves was not. We were seated quickly and our order came quick, but after that no one else showed up. Not to refill our drinks, ask if the good was good, etc. They were busy with two large parties, so they just ignored us completely. I actually waved them down twice, the first time, the server waves back, which was funny at the time, but the second time i wqs asking for a check. The second time the servers visually acknowledged and I saw them wave at each other as if to say not now, this made me angry. I continued to wait 15 minutes and walked up to them to sat ca I have my check. They looked surprised printed out my check. They forgot to add some items I ordered, so I reminded them, they added it to my bill and i paid with NO TIP. They looked at me and said "oh the tips not included", and I told them, you all had me waiting the entire time with NO SERVICE!
