DISAPPOINTING and SHOCKING Experience at America's Best in Clifton
I’ve visited America’s Best in Clifton twice, and unfortunately, my experiences were vastly different.
During my first visit 9/26/24, the staff was exceptional. They were welcoming, attentive, and made the process seamless. I left with a great impression of the store.
However, my second visit on 10/10/24 was a disaster. We were seated with Mariliz, and though she seemed polite at first, it quickly became clear that she was unprofessional, combative, disrespectful, ghetto all while still struggling to do the mere basics of her job . Felicia, another employee, had to assist multiple times. Felicia was excellent—professional, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. She even stepped in to measure us for glasses because Mariliz wasn’t allowed to, despite Mariliz offering. When corrected, Mariliz loudly said that it wasn’t in her job description, so she wasn’t going to do anything extra, and that they weren't paying her to do so, which felt extremely unprofessional and it seemed like she thought that would have impressed us, but nonetheless it didn't, but it did tell us that she was not cut out for any job that involved servicing the guests.
As the appointment progressed, Mariliz's attitude worsened. When I asked if she was a new employee, due to needing so much help, she responded in a confusing and defensive manner, claiming she knew what she was doing but also didn’t know how to do it. Her comments were sarcastic and contradictory. Then, when I asked for a breakdown of the total cost of the glasses before paying, she flatly told me I’d get the details after I paid, brushing off my concern entirely.
At this point, I asked for a manager, hoping to get some assistance and to see if anyone in charge was aware of how unprofessional their team member was acting. Mariliz responded abruptly and with a sarcastic tone, saying that the manager wasn’t there but I could call him tomorrow. This dismissive and non-caring attitude was shocking.
Things escalated when I requested to deal with Felicia instead. Mariliz became visibly upset, raising her voice, making sarcastic comments, getting in a stance to fight. Both my sister and I got up because in no way shape or form we are going to let ourselves get blindsided by an unruly employee. Mariliz finally storming off in an aggressive manner. Both my sister and I were stunned by her behavior. Mariliz even went into another room where we could hear her banging on walls, like she was an aggressive animal trying to get out her cage. Felicia apologized repeatedly, but the damage was already done.
The assistant manager Olga eventually came over, but shockingly admitted she didn’t know how to handle the situation. She assured us that leadership would be informed and promised a follow-up call, whic never happened, which we already knew was going to happen because we were informed that she's a slacker at her job. As someone who manages over 100 employees, I found the lack of accountability appalling. No one in charge seemed to take control of the situation.
While Felicia went above and beyond to try and salvage the experience, the overall service was the worst I’ve ever encountered. I cannot recommend this location based on my second visit unless serious changes are made to address the unprofessional behavior we...
Read moreThis was my review a month ago: I have never experienced such poor service as I did at this location. The name "America's Best" is misleading, it should be called "America's Worst Contacts & Eyeglasses."
I purchased eyeglasses from this store in March. When I asked about replacing the lenses of an existing frame I owned, I was told it would cost more than buying a new pair. This felt like a pushy sales tactic. I decided to purchase new glasses and specifically looked for the lightest, most comfortable pair. However, when I picked them up, they were completely different from what I had chosen. The store explained that the frame "gets wider" when lenses are added, and they made some adjustments.
When I returned to complain, they agreed to change the frame because I insisted it wasn’t the same one I had originally picked. They said they would swap it out, but when I picked them up, I saw no difference. It felt like they lied to me. The glasses were still oversized and heavy, sitting uncomfortably on my cheeks and leaving marks. If I adjusted them higher, the lenses touched my eyelashes.
After wearing them only 2-3 times, I gave up. My busy schedule kept me from returning sooner, but every time I saw them sitting unused in my drawer, I regretted my purchase. Today, I finally went back to the store to explain the issue and seek a resolution.
The experience was TERRIBLE. A staff member named Felicia at the front desk was incredibly RUDE and unprofessional. Despite my polite tone and efforts to explain my situation, she dismissed me entirely. I mentioned that the glasses were unused and explained my dissatisfaction with the purchase, but her attitude was hostile. At one point, she grabbed the glasses and essentially kicked me out of the store. When I expressed my disappointment and said I didn’t appreciate their service, she gave me her name, told me to call customer service, and made it clear she didn’t care.
I’m sharing my experience here so others are aware of the poor service and lack of accountability at this location. This store doesn’t deserve the title "America's Best." Instead, it feels like a place designed to waste customers' money.
To Felicia, I sincerely hope she experiences the same dismissive treatment she gives to her customers.
UPDATE : I want to update my original review to warn others and help them avoid the mistake of going to this horrible place. Today, January 18, 2025, I still haven’t received any calls, emails, apologies, or the glasses they took from me. It seems like they only reply to reviews to make it look like they care, but it’s all for show. I followed their instructions, emailed them back, and provided all the necessary information, yet they’ve done absolutely nothing to resolve the issue. I feel like I’ve wasted my money and my time on this place. This is absolutely America's THE WORST contacts...
Read moreI have had the absolute worst experience with this place. I came here because it's so much closer to my house than my usual place. Everything was fine getting an appointment and seeing the optometrist. Doc did a fine job. So my problems happened trying to get my glasses and contacts. There's no indication that it takes TWO weeks to get glasses and contacts until you're paying. Fine, I'll wait. After two weeks, i still had not been contacted so I tried calling in the afternoon only to be placed on hold for 22 minutes! After finally speaking to the receptionist, i was made aware that there was some kind of error and I'd have to wait another week. After 3 weeks i got a text my glasses had arrived at 730pm. I came in Saturday to grab my glasses and was informed i couldn't schedule a follow up to try several sample contacts and actually order my contacts till Monday. Finally, today, after being put on hold yet again, but only for 7 minutes, i was left with either Tuesday at 10:15 or Friday at 3:15. Both times during work hours. Friday being a full MONTH after i visited the optometrist.
I was never made aware my contacts arrived and I've had to wait an insane amount of time to get my glasses and contacts. I can't explain the previous good reviews but this place is disorganized and does not respect their customers time at all. I'm getting my contacts and this is a one and done experience for me.
EDIT FOR UPDATE: As requested by a rep from America's Best, i sent them an email with my info and details about the event. I was told i would hear back from a district manager which never happened. Buyers beware, this company ...
