Stop & Shop — Attraction in Clifton

This is one of the larger stop & shops around with plenty of parking. This location has a PNC Bank inside as well as a Starbucks and of course a coinstar.

We always enjoy looking through the clearance but wish they were more thorough on pricing the items. A couple of weeks ago we went in and they had about 10 containers of green sprinkles. When we went back this time they still weren't priced. How are you going to sell them if you don't have them priced?? And some of their holiday things take way too long to get to a decent clearance price. Rule of thumb after week make it 90% off. For instance only now are they marking Independence Day items had a good rate. It's now October.🤣

While the store is very clean up and down the aisles, thanks in part to Marty, the restrooms are outdated! They have them designed so that only one person can use them at a time and they are basically deteriorating. Really need to step up their game on restrooms.

You can get some good deals here if you keep your eyes open, especially if you look for items that are leaving their shelves soon. On a similar note, I don't know why they have such weird prices now. They have prices like $3.87, $4.53 and such. Personally I've never been a fan of any price ending in $0.99 as it doesn't trick me. I consider it a dollar, especially when you have to add taxes.

Where do I begin? So today I decided to place an order in the Deli at around 3:45ish. The order was pretty big however, they had 2 workers behind the counter. One with a white beard and another young one with an Afro and hairnet that makes him look like he has a matador hat on. As I’m waiting I see the following. I see the man with the beard cutting the meats. First off if you have a beard that big why wear a hairnet on your head? Anyways. That worker I guess clocks out and it’s just the younger boy at the counter. Although I did place the order through the screen not once did he even acknowledge if I needed help. That’s two time already I’ve gone and it happens. So i decided to wait till he finished with another customer.As this is occurring you have front end self checkout girl walking behind the deli counter with no hairnet or hat on. Very sanitary. 25 minutes later another worker comes into shift and asks if I needed help and I tell him I placed the order and the younger guy goes yeah it’s that stack in the back it’s just missing one item. So you made me wait 25 minutes in a non busy deli section why? Whats the point? Idk what’s going on but I think I might need to call the state for sanitation reasons...

This is by no means a review of the physical location, rather the company and its business. The store itself is clean, well stocked, and workers are kind and helpful. Here’s the big problem that I have encountered. Everything in the store from a gallon of water to office supplies is double to triple the price of that of other retail stores and online merchants. That’s fine, whatever, what gets me is that there is NO price matching from what I was told. Nearly every other major retailer has price matching (Target, Walmart, Home Depot, etc.). Therefore you are forced to pay the high price. And if there IS price matching, then there is a major training issue and I don’t blame staff one bit. It’s okay Stop and Shop, there’s 3 solutions here. One, competitive pricing. Two, offer price matching. Three, offer cheaper selections for a wider selection of items, because I know you guys do that for certain market items. In a professional standpoint, I don’t see how well business will be for you guys considering something for $20 can be bought at Target down the street or Staples next door for $10 and even price matched down to $5 sometimes.
