I have been a customer at this store for ten long years, and I fell in love with it because of some of the cream that they sell. When I arrived at this store on Sunday, November 13, 2022, I went to the cream and candle section, and no one was in there. Five minutes later, I noticed two members of the staff looking at me and standing around me, but it did not cross my mind that something was wrong. So they reach the person who was with me and tell him something in private. So, the person who was with me started checking my pockets, and of course I did not have anything; I just had some creams in my hand. I was chock-full and extremely mad. I went to talk to this person who works there right away and told him why you did this to me, and he said that the camera showed suspicious behavior, and I told him that I understood but wondered why you did not reach me personally and that I would take my jacket off so you could check it. I started yelling at him and told him to bring his manager, and that was the worst thing I did. She arrives, showing me a video that did not show anything, and how I started raising my voice, and she, with a horrible attitude and as many bad words as possible, tells me to get out of her store. Also, other employees began using derogatory language toward me despite the fact that I had not said anything derogatory. I feel so bad and sad because I did not do anything the computer mentioned about a possible behavior because I was wearing a big jacket and a dress. I cannot believe this happened to me. I cannot believe Ace Hardware, which was a nice place, has a manager and some staff members with no respect, no values, no education, and nothing to offer the public at all. I am never going to come back to this place. I think they are racists because I am a Latina from Cuba, and a store like this does not...
Read moreI was just going to let this experience go, and just stop patronizing the Ace Hardware at the Bon Shopping Center, from yesterday's experience, but woke up today still fuming about the encounter with the rude female employee.
I stopped by the Ace Hardware at the Bon Shopping center yesterday, in order to purchase door hardware and a door sweep. As I entered the store I was immediately confronted by an elderly, white haired female employee, who wanted to know what I wanted as soon as I entered the store. I informed her that I'm looking for hardware. She wanted to know what kind of hardware. I told her what I was here to purchase (please, keep in mind that she was rather rude to me through this entire exchange). Moreover, she was addressing me as if I was a criminal about the commit larceny in the store. I said, "Thank you," turned around and left the store; vowing to myself never to return to Ace Hardware in the future (after patronizing this store for 15 years), and drove immediately to Home Depot to purchase what I needed.
Please note that treating honest customers like thieves is by no means a way to conduct business. The Ace Hardware store at the Bon Shopping Center has an employee parked immediately inside the door, to confront every customer entering. At first you think they're a greeter - but no: they're there to chase off as many customers as possible; thinking every customer has evil intent. That's bad store policy, and highly paranoid behavior. I've encountered this in the past few years at Ace Hardware in the Bon Shopping Center, but yesterday was a watershed experience for me. I, a man in his sixties, doesn't need to endure the rudeness of store employees at Ace, when I can just drive a little further, and get my hardware at Home Depot with friendliness and appreciation from...
Read moreI have been supporting this store for many years and was treated extremely poorly today. As a manager of a store in the Citadel Mall I know shoplifting policies, and tactics used when accusing a customer. I walked in your store this evening to be told I had to leave my purse at the front counter. I have a lot of things in my purse that are quite valuable, my phone, my wallet, meds, etc. I told the guy at the door, fine I’ll leave it as long as everyone working there is held responsible if something happens to any of my belongings. His response was that there are cameras everywhere so that shouldn’t be a problem, well obviously that’s not true if you have a problem with shoplifting. I also said that by asking me to this, he was basically calling me a shoplifter, which he of course denied. Not every woman carries a little tiny purse anymore, so does that make every woman a suspect? I’ve read your generic response to previous reviews, and I agree completely with large backpacks, duffle bags etc.Why are people carrying these types of bags? I think you really need to reconsider how you are handling this situation. Many woman keep very personal things in their purses that we don’t want the world to see, it’s also humiliating asking for our bag. Not to mention our bags are just thrown on the dirty floor behind the counter, where they could tip over and be looked into by employees. I was planning on purchasing quire and large amount of Hallmark ornaments from your location, I will no longer support this location. I would think as a business in these hard times I would not want to...
