I worked here over 30 years ago, & I don't know for sure if the owner originally owned it then but I don't remember exactly the dates anymore but the owners first name was Thomas & he always went by the name of Tom but the blue & white sign on top had " Tom's Drive In "on the top but because of the design of the building it looked like it more than likely was originally a Tastee Freeze restaurant, & I was the night Janitor, I worked there for 3 years, I came there at 10:00 p.m. after the restaurant closed & I put the Ice 🍦 Cream Machines on the beater mode & it liquefied the Ice 🍦 Cream, & I had to drain the Ice 🍦 Cream out & I took out the cutting blades & removed the gaskets & washed out the stainless steel machines cleaned the machines inside & out & I then I reassembled the blades & reinstalled them & the gaskets & I cleaned the refrigerator & I had to clean up the grill & do to floors, & spray down the picnic tables outside of the Ice 🍦 Cream shop & then I set the alarm & locked up the business & clocked out by 2:00 AM & rode my 10 speed bike 🚲 home from there, the Owner "Tom" sold the business to a new owner in the 80's & I wasn't working there after it was sold, I never knew who bought it, but I really liked the job because I could do the work at my own pace, & I only had Tom to answer to & it was my first job where I was in charge of everything, all the female employees counted the day's earnings & clocked out & I took over, can anyone tell me when the store name was changed back to...
Read moreOh my goodness, kinda forgot about Tasty Freeze as we typically always go to BJ's. My Bad!!!
Forgot about the great outdoor seating there & the great music that plays while your in line and then when you get your order and are sitting and/or standing enjoying it.
They have a mini live music event on Thursdays I believe (double check that day) that is fabulous! It's live music right!
So, so, so much fun. It takes you back to when Colorado Springs was the REAL Colorado Springs (and those of you that have been here long enough to know what I'm talking about know EXACTLY what I'm talking about), a simpler time when living life was easier! It allows you to enjoy the time you dictate being there to take you back to whatever memory you have that makes your ❤️ smile and inspite of eating their fabulous "Drive-In" style ice cream et al & food it's the serene atmosphere of Drive-in Tasty Freeze that takes your BP down a few notches and allows you to walk away thinking to yourself, "I'm Glad I Came".
😘😘😘 Thank You Drive-in...
Read moreI get so bloody tired of eating corporately prescribed and managed fast food. It has neither taste nor character. So today, I went to this Tasty-freeze--one of the original Tasty-freeze locations from the fifties, that did not get swept up with the corporate franchise movement. And I did not make a mistake. The service was provided by the new owners, a husband-and-wife team, and everything was fresh. Their single burger is a quarter pound slab of meat with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions, and that original Tasty-freeze sauce. I got cheese on mine for an extra 50cents. Also, since I ordered a "combo" mine came with hot fresh French Fries and a medium drink. I don't eat this way often, but it is worth it, once in a while, just to re-acquaint oneself with why American fast food became popular in the first place! At least five clean picnic tables out back and to the side under an awning makes for comfortable eating, even on a 92-degree summer...
