I love this park! There's a pond that has a large sprinkler/sprayer in it, with a paved trail going around it for a nice short walk. A trail also goes around the rest of the park if you want to take a longer walk. There is also a little waterfall with a large stepping stone path going over the bottom part where it runs into the pond. There are benches for you to take a rest and enjoy the view, which is beautiful, not just of the park itself, but also the view of Pikes Peak. Many ducks call this place home, and when you're lucky, you can see their ducklings. I've also seen geese and once, a heron. I have also seen a goldfish, which Im hoping someone didn't just dump their pet in there, but that's probably exactly what happened, and I've seen a slider (turtle). The pond also has beautiful lily pads growing in it with different color blooms. They also have a little planter area with lots of different flowers. Around the park are different trees, which are great at providing shade. I have seen people take advantage of that and have a little picnic or read a book or just relax. The park also has a pavilion, which I believe you can rent for parties or events. There is also a sand volleyball court, but you would need your own ball to play with. If you need to use the restroom, they have them there available to use; I have not ever used them, so I cannot tell you the condition, but they are there if you need them. The playground is nice and has a variety of things for children of multiple ages. Smaller slides, bigger slides, things to climb on, a music area with drums, and lots of space to run. There are also different types of swings, the regular ones you see at most playgrounds, the ones used for little kids, and they also have a swing for someone with special needs to use, which is awesome, and I've seen plenty of people use it. The playground also has a rubbery/foam ground, so if/when the kids fall, it won't hurt as much. Plus, you don't have to clean gravel, sand, or mulch out of their clothes, hair, and/or shoes. The playground also has some workout stations off to the side, so you cannot get a little workout in while your kids play. I will say I have never seen anyone working out with those, but I have seen plenty of kids play on them lol. Only downside I can think for this park is the parking, which is street parking. TLDR: It's a great park and you should...
Read moreNancy Lewis Park is located at the intersection of Templeton Gap and Filmore. One of the best parks in town according to my 6, 9, and 16 year old children. The playground has the same type of features we have all grown up loveing except, it's "new school, or retro, and has many new playthings I only wish I had when I was a kid." And its truly a playground all ages can play on. The other part I love is they did away with the sand and instead have that squishy rubber on the ground. Next to the playground is an area to play Crochet if thats your thing. For those of us that have outgrown the swings and slides dont worry! Follow the paths around a pretty large what i call a "duck pond" complete with a fountain and a little water terrace area that kids seem to love. However i really am not sure if kids are actually allowed to play in the water there but they always do. Dont worry along the entire path there is a bench to rest prolly every 50 to 100 ft. The restrooms are always in above average state of cleanliness. Which isnt common for park restrooms lol.. My only gripe is there is only one covered gazebo for people to use next to two horseshoe pits. I do wish there were more areas that offered shade to relax. Then again this is a park for football, soccer or flying kites.. So it looses no points in my book for that. Overall a great intercity park you wont be disappointed with. If I forgot anything I do apologize or if u have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Hope...
Read moreNicely updated accessible playground: swings, slides, music area, bridges, climbing, "scavenger hunt," croquet field, picnic tables, benches, and restrooms - and a cushioned surface beneath the play areas. Plus therapeutic equipment including resistance machines, steps, and a recumbent bicycle. A duck pond with a water feature, large grassy expanses, a distance marked path, and a sand volleyball pit round out the area for everyone's pleasure. There is some destruction and unattended (poorly behaved) kids, but overall a great park regardless of age.
