This place is outstanding. Nice owners. Beautiful relaxing atmosphere that borders on elegant...you feel away from it all there. Highly recommend their special drinks, mole enchiladas. The enchiladas aren't swimming hidden in cheese and sauce. All flavors there retain their tastes; my compliments to the chef. The chairs are the only "lack" in the ambiance though they look cute. A fireplace for when cold warrants- just been told doesn't work - when it is chilly don't sit near the door as when people leave, it doesn't close. Looks like a summer fun patio dining. Lovely jazz music; I thought there was a house pianist the music system is so good. High side pricing but food and presentation worth it if you want a special evening out. I will be back...... Went back wanting something special after a very hard week. Ordered the salmon, blackened shrimp scallops for $38. The salmon was good-sized but didnt know its own name (tasteless) - tried taking it home and had to throw it - even washed off tasteless. Shrimp excellent. Scallops those tiny ones, a lot but not my fav - thought for 38$ might be a few of those expensive soft quarter sized but no. All the fish in or over too salty mushroom sauce which was just sauce not pieces, which made the salmon overwhelmed. Ended up throwing out the leftover scallops, too. The drink was wonderful. I overheard the porkchop on a poblano being great on their higher priced area. Maybe try that and definitely skip the fish. I want to try the roasted brussels sprout leaves salad next time - I wll be back for enchiladas and drinks and trying more but will skip the fish. I love the people and the place itself....and...
Read moreOh La Cava. I wanted to love you but was so disappointed. The pictures looked so different from what I saw...Outdoor patio was deserted, covered in leaves and dirt, not one customer out there. Walked in, was behind another family and was greeted after about 5 minutes of standing by ourselves. Chairs were flimsy, felt like one wrong move and you might break it. I only saw 2 workers in the place, our waiter was the same gentleman who seated us and there was another gentleman behind the bar. House margarita was $12, pricy but delicious. Chips and salsa weren't memorable. The food. I couldn't find anything that sounded amazing on their very limited menu so I decided on chicken fajitas...asked for flour tortillas and got 3 itty bitty corn tortillas instead. Came on the smallest skillet I have ever seen and was just a sliced chicken breast with plain rice and beans. No Lettuce, no tomatoes, guac, nothing. I have never been served just meat and rice and tortillas as fajitas before... total let down. The hubby ordered enchiladas and received 3 small, bone dry enchiladas with a lightning bolt of sauce on the top, no rice, no beans, just the 3 little dry enchiladas. Bill was $70 with tip. Saddest meal I've probably ever had. I got the feeling this restaurant is deeply struggling from covid...I really hope they are able to recover and prepare food that is worth eating. Margarita was the best part. I wish you guys the best and hope you're able to turn...
Read moreI recently had a business lunch at La Cava with another gentleman and it was an abysmal dining experience. Our first clue was it was noon and no one was there. The second clue was the clueless waitress who seated us (two guys in nice business suits) right by the loud swinging kitchen door because it was the only 2-person table... did I mention no one else was in the place? Additionally, their soda dispenser wasn't working (another clue, because that's usually where restaurants make their biggest profit.) The place tried to be rustic and the bathroom sink was no exception, as it was an old rusted outdoor hose faucet which emptied into a rusted pan and I'm guessing it hadn't been cleaned for months. The odd thing was the waitress claims the restaurant is owned by a couple of elderly doctors, but I'm guessing they don't eat there. We were running late and decided to get something simple and semi-safe- a chicken enchilada. That took almost 30 minutes to arrive and when we tried to extract our first bite, the bottom of the enchilada was so hard & burned, we couldn't cut through it with a fork and knife! After managing to extract a bit of goo, we each had one bite and pushed the plate back. It was unlike anything either of us had tasted and we both gave up. The clueless waitress only deducted one meal from the bill instead of apologizing and letting us go on our way. Recommendation: AVOID IT LIKE COVID!
After leaving, we did have a delicious meal at...
