We just did the Speakeasy today for our first escape room experience - failed miserably!! First off, the technology on one of the items didn't work at first and I also had to correct the grammar of the game leader coming in.
I think for the 3 of us, it was a fun experience but we didn't have enough time to not end up feeling like a big loser.
As a GenX er I found it difficult to understand why they chose sea biscuit when Sea Biscuit was foaled the year that prohibition was repealed. Covid has caused folks to lose their sense of smell so maybe rethink that piece of the room as it could be a butler handicap as it was for us.
Spending $30 each for us to just ask a bunch of clues may be a fun night for some - I personally would rather figure it out myself and there wasn't enough time to do that. It was fun- until time was up and I felt like a loser!!!
That said I might buy a murder mystery game game or go someplace that offers more time in the future to allow time!!
The game person was okayish, she didn't offer to take our pictures and told us not to feel bad most people don't solve it on their first time, and offered for us to come back with more people.
Edit to change autocorrect spelling and to update - this is my...
Read moreAbsolutely love this place and how the rooms are set up. Without spoiling too much, these escape rooms are less about escaping and more about performing a certain task in order to complete the room. The attention to detail and the choice of decoration and even the items used for the escape room feel much more authentic and genuine as opposed to other places that feel more commercialized.
As a person who has done multiple escape rooms, these definitely feel challenging because of the uniqueness of different parts of the room. Also, these rooms force you to be very, very attentive to every little detail, whereas other escape rooms tend to be a little looser when it comes to details. With that said, there are some parts I feel are perhaps a bit unfair. However, they ultimately make logical sense to the point where they are not "guess what's in my pocket" type of logic. I look forward to doing the third and final room that they currently have, which apparently there is going to be one additional room later this year and potentially a new one next year.
Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys escape rooms, but just be prepared that this is a little bit trickier than previous...
Read moreWe had a really fun time at Escape It Grandview. My wife and I have done a bunch of escape rooms, but this one stands out for how clever and unconventional the puzzles are. In a lot of escape rooms, when you get stuck it's because there's something you failed to notice -- a drawer you didn't open or a table you never looked under. But at Escape It, there is no trickery in where to look for things. It's all about solving puzzles. Rob was very helpful when we asked for clues, giving just enough information to keep us on track but not enough to make anything easy. And the room shows a "progress bar" on the screen, which helps you understand whether you're falling behind and should be willing to swallow your pride and ask for a clue. The building itself is a lot bigger than it looks from the front, since most of the property is below the ground level. We did the Speakeasy room, and just barely managed to finish (literally with seconds left to spare) after 4 or 5 hints over the course...
