GLASS IN MY CUPCAKES.
They gave me a $25 gift card for nearly hospitalizing me on my birthday.
On my birthday, I bit into several pieces of glass in Patty Cake's cupcakes. At first I thought it was crystalized sugar so I chewed up the pieces which were very hard and swallowed them. After a few more pieces and nearly breaking a molar, I realized it was glass.
[I know it was glass because it was very hard, sharp, clear, did not dissolve in water or change with the application of heat.]
During my birthday celebration I took the time to separate myself from everyone celebrating my birthday to take some of the glass shards in to show Patty Cake. The woman working the counter was not trained to automatically halt production and sales when GLASS is baked into your cupcakes.
The woman working the counter did not offer a replacement order so I had to ask for one. She even -knowingly- gave me more of the cupcakes from same batch baked with glass... Talk about a law suit waiting to happen... She then almost tried to charge me for the replacement order but thought twice about it.
They apologized and said they would be in touch and provide a gift card.
Their text messages were very slow. I got about one per week for several weeks. Obviously, glass in their food is not a priority for them. They wanted my name and address to send me a gift card. Not in the habit of giving my personal information to strangers, I told them to leave it at the store and I would pick it up. It took probably three weeks for them to finalize the gift card and make it available for pickup.
The day I went to pick up the gift card, I drove five hours to get there with my service dog. I entered the store and the same lady I initially met told me they don't allow dogs in the store. She explained this to me with another lady and her dog sitting at the counter. I asked, you don't allow service dogs? She requested my documentation for my service dog. I told her I have them and was just hoping to pick up my gift card.
Keep in mind my Corgi was just in the car for five hours and was elated to see people and another dog so he was trying to go say hi to the other dog/people. The woman working the counter interpreted this as an untrained, non-service dog.
I asked how much the gift certificate was for. She said $25. I was shocked and told her I was insulted that Patty Cake would offer me $25 for biting into glass in their cupcakes. On my birthday no less.
$25 does not even cover the order which they baked glass into. I bought a dozen cupcakes and three slices of cake.
After weeks of slow communication, a five hour car ride, the employee immediately asking for my service dog documentation (which I would have to go find on my phone), and an insulting $25 gift card which does not even cover my order or my gas to get there, or my time, or come close to the medical expenses they could be sued for, I was noticeably agitated. To which the employee said "you seem to be having a hard time right now." Which only raised my blood pressure.
If I were Patty Cake, I would train your employees better, not insult customers, respond faster, compensate people better when you bake glass into cupcakes (on their birthday), and not assume someone's dog is not a service dog.
As a customer who has gone to Patty Cake for years, even at their old location, I will NEVER go back to Patty Cake again after how this was handled. Nor do I want to pay them to eat anymore glass. I enjoy being alive and not risking my life eating your pastries. MY RESPONSE TO PATTY CAKE'S REPLY:
There are zero fabrications in my review of your dangerous food with glass in it.
Absurd that a bakery would use glass and not know the risk of chipping.
I have a licensed working service dog and he is very well behaved.
You "try" but fail to radiate "kindness and sweetness in all you do." Evidenced by your disgusting passive-aggressive and inaccurate response in an attempt to defend yourself when you...
Read moreNeeded 2 bâday cakes and being new to Ohio and only wanting the best for my loved ones, I had to do research on the best bakeries in Columbus to make sure I got the best. I came up with a top 3 list with Pattycake coming in at # 1. Called all 3 for estimates based on the type of cakes I wanted and the number of people to feed. Based on the number of people I needed, we discussed pricing for 2 size cakes that fit my needs.....a 1/4 sheet cake and a 10 in round cake. I decided to go with Pattycake since it was as the top and had similar pricing to the other 2. I was not 100% sure of the date to pick it up but would be confirming it soon. Was informed they would be closing soon and I would needed to call back in the morning. Called in the morning to place order and the prices were completely different. I explained my call with employee Macy the afternoon before and the prices I was provided. She said she could not alter the price and I asked to speak to the manager who confirmed I was provided incorrect prices for the size I am ordering. She said their cake menu can be confusing due to the layout of the 8 inch and 10 inch prices and maybe that is why I was quoted the incorrect price as that had happened before. Shared that a menu layout issue was not on me and the prices I was provided should be honored. She said she would need to call the employee and get back with me. She quickly called back after speaking with the employee who had a different recollection of the call. She told her I did not know the size. She told her we discussed smaller cakes. I explained that simply isnât true as I called knowing exactly how many to feed and we only discussed cakes that would feed the amount needed- which was a 10 inch cake and 1/4 sheet cake. She also said I called back a second time to ask the price for a smaller cake. Again not true as I did call directly back but to confirm how many their 1/4 sheet cake fed. I wanted to place an order but was told since I didnât know pick up date and would have to call with that information anyway I could place the order at that time.
Manager informed me since it was a âhe said ...she said â issue there was not anything she could do. She said I should have started an order for proof. I told her I was told to call back in the morning with the date and was not offered to start an order. So very disappointing but I will not judge businesses in Buckeye Nation by just this one. Iâm moving on to bakery # 2 and if I were you I would on from...

I have not visited this place since they have moved. Their new location is very accessible, a much bigger parking lot in the back, with a handicap spot, very long ramps for wheelchair accessibility. (Please note, Well this area is accessible to persons in wheelchairs, there is no indoor seating, and very little space to maneuver, however I'm sure the wonderful stuff would have no problem assisting you if you still needed help! They are always great!)
If you are picking up pre-orders for yourself or a delivery service, they do have shelves immediately out back so you can pick up the order with very little hassle. They are still requiring mask, and have provided them with hand sanitizer and napkins right insides the door. And probably best of all, they added a beautiful patio area with string lights and tall bushes that make it feel like a hidden paradise.
You can see inside the store that they have a lot of options for merchandise, local coffee, and some grab and go beverages. I was especially interested in the mugs due to their sturdy and comfy design. I ended up getting one of their patches for a good friend of mine. It's very well made and reasonably priced, I feel confident that it will last for a while.
Not only do they have a lot of options for you to choose from, they also have gluten-free options as well, and have made it easy for you to differentiate them at a glance as the two tags are different colors. I am already very confident in their quality of baked goods, and I'm so happy to see them expand to a...
