Discriminatory and Disrespectful Service at This Location
I’ve been a loyal customer at this store for years, spending thousands on flooring, equipment, and truck rentals in the summer of 2024 alone. Unfortunately, one discriminatory and disrespectful experience in mid-August has completely ruined my trust in this location.
On that visit, I came to rent a scaffold. The employee assisting me—a man wearing an “I Speak Arabic” sign on his shirt—abruptly paused helping me and said, “Wait a minute, I have customers.” I initially thought he was going to briefly acknowledge the other customers since he appeared to be working alone and would return to assist me. Instead, he abandoned me mid-transaction to assist a middle-aged couple. This was despite the fact that I still needed help loading the scaffold, a task I could not complete on my own.
What made this even more frustrating was that the couple he chose to assist didn’t appear to need help—they were physically fit, healthy, and appeared to be professionals accustomed to this type of work. They seemed ready and able to handle the task on their own, yet the employee insisted on assisting them while I was left standing there, confused and insulted.
Feeling frustrated but unwilling to cause a scene, I loaded the scaffold by myself, which was physically demanding and unnecessary, given the situation. This experience left me feeling dismissed and humiliated. I couldn’t help but believe that racial or origin discrimination played a role—had I been of a different ethnicity or nationality, I doubt I would have been treated this way.
As a repeat customer with store credit cards for this and other locations, including Lowe’s and Menards, I expect better. Additionally, I have another Home Depot within almost the same distance from my home, which I may choose to frequent instead. While I don’t want to punish the store as a whole for the actions of one employee, this individual clearly needs serious retraining. This behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the store.
I plan to report this incident to management to ensure no one else endures such treatment. Loyal customers deserve respect and fairness, and this store...
Read moreWe just moved to the area and have been ordering everything we need for our new home from this Home Depot on Hamilton Road. Ordering online has been great but boy oh boy going into the store is a WHOLE different experience. Mind you, I'm 8 months pregnant so I've been doing a lot of curbside pickup since I cant lift most heavier items. I had a curbside order but needed to run in to the store to pickup a few other items so I stopped at the desk to let her know I can just pickup my order instead of them bringing it out to my car since my husband was with me and you would've thought I ruined her whole day. She was so beyond rude to me because I came inside vs. picking up curbside. I thought I was being helpful?
Another instance - I returned a few items that were purchased with a gift card so the woman at the customer service desk said I have to give you store credit. I figured that's fine we're planning to spend a whole lot more money here so no big deal. I tried using it that night on the app and realized said store credit must be used in the store. Fine. I go into the store today to purchase my items and go to use my store credit and the woman at the self checkout quite literally was yelling at me telling me I "cannot use the store credit" and kept saying "this isn't yours!". She said this is your daughters! I said...I don't even have a daughter what are you talking about? I felt so defeated I told Martha, the woman "helping" me how incredibly rude she is and I took my stored credit, drivers license and walked out of the store.
We've already spent SO much money here and were planning to continue to shop here since it's so close to our new house but I honestly have anxiety about going back into that store. 1/2 the employees are super sweet and helpful but the other 1/2 are so extremely rude. Now I'm stuck with a store credit that I must use...
Read moreThe Home Depot on N. Hamilton Rd. is very close and convenient to my home. I spend far more time and money in this store than I should. I always enjoy my experience.
This review focuses on their carpet sales. Again, the staff was more than friendly and courteous. The problem comes in from the outsourcing they do for carpet measurements. I selected a carpet and paid $20 to have my room measured. By my calculations I have 400 sq ft. If the carpet was cut to perfection I needed a 33' section of 12' wide carpet. Allowing for waste I calculated a 35' length of carpet would suffice. The Home Depot measuring company attempted to charge me for 42'. This equates to 100 sq ft of extra carpet. I objected to this claiming it was grossly over estimated and an attempt to gouge customers.
I met with a manager at Home Depot along with the flooring specialist. They were friendly once again and claimed they would be following up on this. Nobody followed up.
I eventually purchased the same carpet from another source. I paid slightly more per square foot but the overall cost was far less because the other company did not attempt to overcharge me.
I'm writing this because I believe this is a business practice used by the company Home Depot outsources their measuring to. This business practice is something Home Depot needs to correct. I can't imagine how many people pay 20% or more than needed to carpet their homes?
Before you buy flooring from Home Depot, do yourself a favor and find a local company to price compare. I would have rather purchased from Home Depot but I refuse to over pay enough to carpet another room.
Home Depot renames all their carpets but they are the same carpets you can find most everywhere else. Mine happened to be a...
