Let me say, i haven't had a bad experience really with LA Fitness as a whole, aside from the the paying $5 to visit other clubs I'm cool with the place. Today however really boiled my blood. I work a very physically taxing job and after I get off work its been a feat to get to the gym because I'm generally exhausted. Hell, its hard to get myself to the gym all together because of mental obstacles and life in general. Getting motivated is already a challenge for most folks to go workout, this is not easy to do and it's easy for me to get discouraged. To be trying to fight mild depression with health and wellness is a task in itself. Today I left work and got on the green line to head to the gym, PG Plaza location is right on the way and it would've given me enuff time to get home by 6 to get the rest of my responsibilities taken care of. I am leaving town tomorrow evening and have to work and needed to pack and get ready for my day tomorrow(starts at 530am)..to help myself stay focused on my fitness and really stick with it, I have created lists and a workout plan and meal plan etc...everything is very specific and needs certain equipment for me to reach my fitness goals. I need weights. The weight area is under construction currently and that is all fine and dandy but when I asked could I use the personal training area, just for the weights i was told no. Mind you this area was empty..I asked why I was unable and was told the reason is because i have an option to use another club. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT TOOK TO GET TO THIS CLUB?? Also, I DO NOT DRIVE and since there is a gym right off my train line I'm using this one. I have to be strategic in my commuting and do what suits my schedule and my finances as I use uber and public transport to get me from a to b. I left and just got back on the train, rode another 2 stops and caught a bus to my home club. I am now severely behind schedule and am just flustered. To assume I have another option is insulting. To assume you know anyone's OP too options is insane to me. I'm using my other option standing in this lobby. No one is beating down doors to have a personal training session at LA Fitness. Everytime I go, the personal training area is empty. I've seen it being used very little. Luckily I am more determined to lose this weight and maintain my mental health than I am angry with these dumb policies gyms put in place that inconvenience the guest. If someone was over there using the area I understand, but since this was more convenient for me as a paying customer and the equipment was available I figured my satisfaction was a top priority, it is not. All of a sudden the kettle bells, ropes and other equipment became only available for personal training clients and to me that makes no sense bc we should all have access to the same tools for optimum wellness. I hope things get better and more guest oriented at LA Fitness, it's a really nice...
Read moreI really don't know where to start. This gym has redefined the following: Cleanliness How to retain members Imposing basic rules and maintenance of basic hygiene
This gym has been in terrible shape for a very long time. Members have been complaining to no avail. The upper management is apathetic and the lower level managers can only do so much. They've started paying attention a little at this point because there has been a mass exodus of members in the last 6 months.
The gym is NEVER cleaned. The main gym floor has never seen the face of a mop. Some members spit on the walls and the ground. There is chewing gum everywhere. Hair never gets cleaned out from the bathrooms and the womens toilets thankfully are somewhat tolerable. Same with the sauna and pool area. The men's toilets supposedly are never clean and soap isn't provided so the guess is those members use the equipment after, without washing their hands.
The floor has been caving in for over a year. I'm surprised no one has broken a leg yet. If you carry weights and step into a caved in floor, an injury is VERY LIKELY.
Unsupervised children running around and young teenagers without supervision being given memberships.
Basic necessity like the air conditioner was not provided in the summer. If anyone complained the general reply was how it keeps breaking down and how upper level managers were not helpful in the situation. So almost the entire summer everyone was working out in a sauna on the main floor. It was very hot and a health hazard.
NOT ENOUGH EQUIPMENT TO SERVE MEMBERS. NOT ENOUGH BARBELLS even if it's not rush hour. Stealing is never accounted for and stolen weights are never replaced, so say goodbye to progress in your training if you come here.
Steam room hasn't been fixed in a year and is unlikely to get fixed.
The only reason people still come here is because it's such a great location and very easily accessible by metro. This is one of the reasons this gym hasn't closed down yet and 0 incentive for the brand to do regular repairs at this gym. LA fitnesses in other counties are well maintained and well equipped.
They've been promising a renovation which probably will happen but due to poor management it's going to go back to being a trash can. If the gym isn't cleaned regularly and the equipment is not cleaned and maintained there is no use of the renovation.
The members are also blamed for poor management of the facility itself. RULES ARE NEVER IMPOSED in the name of retaining members and people get away with bad behavior. How can members be blamed when rules ARE NEVER ENFORCED.
If you're visiting that's fine but as a long term choice 🤷♀️. Visit at your own peril.
The new facility managers are trying to do something but without ENOUGH staff how are they supposed to maintain the facility. The staff that is there is pretty apathetic too. This gym is not...
Read moreLocker room is filthy. It's like they don't even bother to mop and sanitize the floors, I understand people are walking around in shoes and tracking in dirt, but there are days I go in and see same spots of filth.
Parking would be the only big plus, two levels of parking. It is shared with other businesses, but I've never had a problem finding a space.
Everytime I walk in, the staff are talking amongst themselves or just carrying on personal conversation with friends and I just stand there waiting to be scanned in to avoid being rude and reaching over the counter to scan myself in.
Machines are ALWAYS BROKEN. Now in the morning time, there isn't much people in the gym, but I still find myself waiting for machines. Esp. The stair master. They have 4 and 1 has been in the "repair scheduled" status for months now? Ridiculous.
My biggest problem with this location is that they have a section ONLY for personal training and it's bordered with the posts and retractable tape? It used to be available for anyone and everyone to do their floor workouts, push-ups, sit-ups, you name it. Now all we get is a mat on top of their wood floors by their front desk! Also, they have equipment they reserve only for their personal training. Their entire kettle bell collection is reserved only for personal trainers. No one is allowed to used them even if they're not being used! Ridiculous! They have dozens of them and never use more than 2 at a time, yet I can't use any to do my 5 sets of KB swings. It's ridiculous that they made an area of the gym and some equipment exclusive to personal training when it used to be available to everyone. What else will they begin to slowly take away?
One of my pet peeves is having the cleaning staff spray down equipment next to me and I have to breathe in fumes and spray particles to cleaning chemicals while I'm trying to workout. Like, there's a whole row of unused treadmills, go clean those if you need something to do! Not the machine next to me while I'm trying to get into my zone.
I've been to better LA Fitness locations, but unfortunately I have to deal with this location since it's...
