I grew up in Beckley and the surrounding areas and always enjoyed going to the movies. I used to go to the Crossroads Cinemas when they were at the Crossroads Mall and to the Raleigh Cinema at the Raleigh Mall. It was a good time for the whole family and a quite affordable one, too. However, as of late, it has become so expensive to even consider going. When it costs a family of four $37 just to get in the door to watch a 2d movie, I'd have to say that is ridiculous! Not only that but it costs an additional $20-$40 for refreshments. Parents can easily assess they would spend anywhere between $40-$80, if not more for a trip to see a movie! No wonder so many people are avoiding the theaters like they have been and choosing to wait for the movie to come out on DVD! Another reason a lot of people no longer go is due to poor customer service and overall cleanliness of the facility. The floors are always sticky. The seats are filthy and torn and need to be replaced. I remember when I would visit Crossroads Cinemas, be it with family or friends, before the movie was even finished, there would be a theatre attendant standing outside the door with broom and dustpan in hand ready to clean the area before the next showing began. Very rarely did I ever go into that theater and there be a mess that was not being attended to. The staff was friendly and seemingly enjoyed their job, too. Unlike now. I'm not saying that everything about Marquee Cinemas is bad nor do I expect that everyone will agree with me on my opinion and that is ok. I will still go there myself from time to time to enjoy a movie, but if it were more affordable to go a lot more people would go more often. I...
Read moreFirst, the minor slavery knows nothing about customer care. I learned more about some boy working tearing tickets. Then my options besides popcorn. Keep in mind this was a Sunday EARLY BIRD. (Best time to go)! Anyway, the theatre and amphitheater was FILTHY. Half my clique from high school. Worked at the former location at crossroads mall. They'd be standing at the door a few minutes before movie was over. That way the next showing would have clean floors. An unoccupied seat two down from me look like I had an entire family's trash sitting in a chair. Just completely unprofessional. Plus surprise I'm a freelance writer doing movie reviews I couldnt concentrate on the movie with staff delivering food to the seat. Apparently Beckley has also forgotten how long I theater even if it's a movie theater ought to be run . I'll be back tonight from 925 showing . Another hint stop hiring so many high school kids. No wonder that place is trash pit. This is the fifth Marqueese I've been to in three weeks and this is been the worst options for films. in a nightmare and cleanliness and professionalism . Ironically I live A mile so down the street. No wonder I never see a crowd. I would give my whole life and I Beckley is about 10 years behind in a little backwards but maybe a good Best and latest film could help The cause . Plus the part of a larger profit margin . If this wasn't my hometown I have to be honest. It'd be one star.

Read moreBeautiful facility and beautiful staff. I showed up to watch a 6:20 pm showing off IT! The sun was blaring in the ticket kiosk and i couldnt see the times on the digital board. The adorable country girl ticketmaster directed my attention to the physical prints of the movie times and descriptions. I had some expensive equipment in my breifcase that i didnt want to leave in the car even though the parking lot is lit up like a xmas tree and feels completely safe. The manager offered to lock my case in a office that he assured me had camera protection. The lobby is big and beautiful. Nothing quant about this place. This is a mega modern movie house. They had a really well done wonderwoman and batman display. From what i could see, their was six or eight arcade games, including claw machines and photo booth. Refreshments were vast and popcorn was killer. ...even the quarter gumball machine brand was different than i have seen and delicious. Raquetball size jawbreakers can be had for 1$.
The actual viewing room is a thing of beauty. Seating is like baby bears bed......just right. The screen was one of the biggest i have seen next to imax that is. Here is the big one for me. Perfect viewing experience. No problems with projection or sound. Believe me that isnt something to be taken for granted. Bravo projectionist and adorable professional booth gals.
Like it or not,i will be back!!!
I saw IT! on...
