We visited here for a birthday dinner with some family and found it to be rather odd. The host and staff were nice enough but no one really seemed to know what they were doing most of the time? It was surprising because the restaurant wasn't even that busy and we weren't a large group, just 6 people. The appetizers came out very staggered, but that was just the start. When it came time for main courses they came out one or two at a time, with such a large span of time going by that the first person served had finished their meal while the last person was still waiting for theirs to arrive. The dishes also all arrived with varying degrees of temperature, some of them having obviously sat for some time. One of the last to arrive, the Korean barbecue rice bowl, was somehow both slapped together and left to die in the window. The steamed rice was lukewarm, the vegetable garnish limp, and the beef and egg undercooked and cold. What I did eat left me feeling ill for a few days afterward, so I can't recommend it. The other dishes my family had were hit or miss, with one enjoying theirs quite a bit and others not. The restaurant itself is beautiful to look at, clean, and has a very trendy design, but the actual dining experience was just a nightmare. They're also pretty blatantly ripping off dishes from other restaurants on their 'special menu', notably the pork belly and tonkatsu grits from Kita Japan in Charleston. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but do yourself the favor of enjoying it the right way....
Read moreMy husband of 17 years asked me out on a date and so we decided to go somewhere we have never been before. While searching on Google for restaurants near us we came across this one, because we love looking for authentic Japanese food (given the fact we lived in Japan for 4 years). We have seen this place from the outside for many years but never went in because it looked somewhat low quality given its location and simple sign (you know judging a book by its cover. Shame on us). As we entered the doors we where very surprised to see a beautiful atmosphere for the dining. We were very happy with the service and the food was as close to authentic as we have found through the whole state. IT WAS DELICIOUS! (I recommend the black samurai roll if you do not like true sushi). They were super apologetic for a mishap with my food and were eager to correct and fix the issue. The price of the food is so worth what you get. If you have never been here and you like good Japanese (and other asian) food, DO NOT miss out on this gem right...
Read moreUpdated: This place did have a 5 star review from me, but it has changed. We started eating Pho a lot and the last two times we have ordered it they have given us actually rotten bean sprouts. You would think if you are handling food and it was rotten you would notify the customer you were out of sprouts and not serve rotten food. No they serve rotten food. Happened more than once. Also the service isn’t as good anymore.
…………. This place is absolutely fantastic. It was a bit pricey, but they feed the heck out of you, so it totally makes up for it. The service was fast and friendly, and our server even helped us order something because we’ve never been there before. Everything tasted great and had a lot of flavor. Every single bit of it came out fast and we ordered quite a bit of food. So far I would say it’s the Best in Beckley! My daughter and I ordered Bento Boxes .. you won’t need any extras and they are way too good!! I recommend those if you want to leave...
