I have worked and been a member at several gyms in the past, so when I'm gym hunting I know what to look for. I have done a wide variety of things which include member service, teaching classes, personal training, and managing a gym. These places included The Rush 24/hr. Fitness (they closed), Niles-Buchanan YMCA, FitZone, & Hulsey Wellness Center.
Gold's Gym is the best value for your money. They have a ton of equipment, so even at peak times you can get a good workout. I love all their functional training stuff like kettlebells, sand balls, medicine balls, box jump, BOSU, ab rollers, TRX Bands, pull-up rings, battle rope, and much more. My favorite is there pull-up rack. I also like that they're open 24 hours.
The staff are friendly but they also leave me alone. What do I mean by that? I can do some pretty crazy and intense things, but as long as I'm not hurting myself or putting anyone else in danger they let me be. I love being creative with my workouts and trying new things. I never feel judged. Nobody has ever come up to me and said, "I'm sorry you can't do that."
As far as daycare is concerned it's only and extra $10 to add on your children. That's next to nothing! I only have two kids, I think if you have 3 or more kids the price goes up a little, but that normal for most gyms. The daycare is opened every day, which shorter hours on the weekends.
Sabrina who runs the daycare is professional. She goes the extra mile. For Christmas they made ornaments, for Easter they made magnets, and for Mother's Day I received a nice picture from both my boys ages 2 & 4. It was really thoughtful. My boys are not in school or daycare, so they rarely have a chance to make crafts and bring them home.
The front desk people are awesome. I love that when I call they answer the phone by saying my first name. I like that my card information is on file, so if I want to purchase a shake or something, I don't have to run out to my van and get my wallet. I don't like bringing my wallet into the gym.
Andrew is cool and will always try to work with you to get you a good deal. Sure it's a business, and it can only stay open if they get members. Even though Andrew has monthly goals he's trying to reach, he doesn't do it by being a jerk or putting on unnecessary pressure. He makes you feel like a person and not just a business transaction.
I could go on, but that is a summary. I don't normally write reviews and I've been saying I was going to write one for the past 3 or 4 months. I'm just now getting around to it.
I hope you join. My name is Jaela and I LOVE Jesus and I LOVE people. If you see me come say...
Read morePositives: Generally friendly, fairly well equipped gym. Reasonable price. Negatives: Can be a bit crowded Often inappropriately excessively violent movies in cardio-cinema. This gym is not better business bureau accredited. I looked up ABC's Financial Services consumer report feedback and it was poor and 1 of 5 stars.... lowest mark possible... Inflexible management both at golds and abc. was disappointed how inflexible the billing company and the management was when I moved. They would not accept reasonable documents like job offers, job acceptance letters, start date letter, other business correspondence, business itinerary, etc etc meaningful documents, but would accept a meaningless document showing my regular monthly out of state utilities that would not show I moved and wouldn't budge on accepting the meaningful documents.... it's like they pick documents that take extra time to get to squeeze out extra months of billing... I really don't want to deal with people who engage in deceptive business practices.... I am very disappointed at the unwillingness of gold's management to fix or acknowledge this as broken and consider it deceptive and even criminal business practice. Very disappointed If someone in the business world was as confused as the gold's manager I spoke to they would be replaced. She heard the document asked for was meaningless. She heard that they would accept a meaningless document. It's nuts. She showed no willingness to even raise the problem in the policy to Gold's as problematic and that's sad. I also have lost money in the machines there which didn't return change and the front desk had no policy for what to do. I had that both with cash and credit cards. This gym is fairly friendly, but the way they handle moving is probably a form of consumer fraud I am dissapointed with the...
Read moreI'm currently in the process of canceling my gym membership because of the consistently unsanitary conditions in the women's locker room (Floors, Walls, and the smell). Despite raising concerns with the staff and management several times, nothing has improved. It's frustrating to be told that the showers are cleaned daily when they clearly aren't. The presence of old soap and grime for weeks is unacceptable. The front desk staff's indifference is disheartening, and it's clear they prioritize other matters over member satisfaction. This gym might be fine for workouts, but the restroom facilities are severely lacking. It's disappointing that the management would rather have members leave than address these issues. I wasnât planning on leaving a review, but it's important for others to know the truth about the condition of the women's bathroom.
FYI: The picture I took was on Tuesday May 7 at 7am. Two other members just sent me a message this morning Friday May 10th saying the hair is still there. Itâs more upsetting that I had to pay $110 to even buy out my contract, when Iâm the one taking showers in that condition. The hair was in two different showers. I couldnât take the picture of the other shower because someone went in to change their clothes . When I find the pictures of the old rages and soap that was sitting in the shower for weeks about two months ago, I will post those as well.
Please do NOT look over the reviews about the unsanitary condition of the ladies shower area like I did.
Update: I just received an email saying they received my fees and my membership is officially canceled. And not ONCE was the bathroom issue...
