Each has over a hundred selections to whet your whistle. Unfortunately, as wonderful as the dining/food options are, our stateroom experience was a disaster. And the reason Star of the Seas doesn't deserve a five-star review IMO. We were directly under the Windjammer Kitchen galley. There was constant 24/7 noise coming from the kitchen above. So much noise it's unbearable and impossible to relax in ones' room at any time day or night or even try to get...
Read moreI recently cruised onboard Utopia of the Seas with my family (myself and my husband, our daughter, 18, and her friend, 17). This is my pros/cons of our 5 day, 4 night cruise.
Onboard Ship Boarding process was incredibly smooth & easy Staff was excellent The ages for teen activities & adult activities not overlapping slightly was frustrating (17 & 18 year old unable to attend activities together New elevator systems - more efficient and less waiting times Extremely clean onboard ship & island Towel policy âšď¸ Didnât feel crowded despite the thousands of guests and staff on board The location of the smoking section on the pool deck 𤎠it would be nice to have it somewhere that you donât walk have to walk through it to get where youâre going. Themed neighborhoods Adults only pools & hot tubs in the Solarium
Dining & Lounge Areas Many complimentary dining options available Food truck offerings: meh - fried, premade & prepackaged carnival type food. Dry. Pass. Specialty restaurant bars do not require reservations and drink packages can be used at them. (no food) Unique bar menus đ Pesky Parrot â¤ď¸ - by far, my favorite!!! During busy times, it felt like they didnât always have enough staff Dancing waiters in the dining room seems demeaning and unnecessarily embarrassing -That poor Washy Washy man in the Windjammer wearing that ridiculous costume. So demeaning. Food is only âokayâ - not great. Service is fast and excellent! Ability to order more than one app/entree/desert (no charge)- smaller portions allows for the opportunity to be more adventurous No drink limits with drink package Top shelf liquor No lobster on formal night (or any cruise less than 7 days) Wine flights included wines that would not have been covered in full by drink package, allowing samples of more premium wines Wine flights covered by drink package Iâm not crazy about the waiters asking repeatedly for a score of 10/10 Complimentary room service / wake up call (coffee, juice, bagels, muffins, pastries, cereal - there is a charge for the hot food selections)
Staterooms Towel animals Printed Compass available by request 3 in 1 body wash - no shampoo & conditioner - very frustrating đ Temperature in room and indoor areas around ship was far too warm - unable to adjust room temp to desired coolness level Required to split up couples / children with multiple staterooms (mainly an issue with drink pkg) Complimentary mattress topper & extra pillows
Entertainment Shows were INCREDIBLE!!!!! Towels provided in the Splash Zone at the Aqua80s show Not enough notice of theme nights to order/bring themed outfits Combining formal night with theme night - less people dressed casually on formal nightđ Music at pool deck and on CocoCay/Hideaway Beach was fun and got everyone pumped up and dancing Would have liked to see more classes / activities: Making cocktails, deserts, towel animals, etc Nightly themed parties in the Promenade for all agesđ
CocoCay CocoCay: Our itinerary included TWO stops at the island Drink package extends to the island So many chairs, umbrellas, hammocks and places to relax around island Brightly colored and fun without being tacky Multiple beaches Hideaway Beach Complimentary poolside casitas at Hideaway Beach Why do they take the beach balls away so early??? Food on CocoCay is just âokayâ if that. Food is better at Hideaway but not great. Ceviche at Hideaway Beach
Disembarkation Disembarkation was long but still fairly easy Disembarkation time is more of a recommendation / suggestion and is not enforced. Breakfast is available in the MDR on Disembarkation Day, as well as in the Promenade Cafe Drink package still available for use on Disembarkation Day for Bloody Maryâs, Mimosas, specialty coffees, etc No Sea Days - didnât allow us to take advantage of all the ship had to offer 4 nights was way too short - wouldnât do another cruise with...
Read moreSo we just got back from a 5 day 4 night cruise on Utopia of the Seas and I figured Iâd share some thoughts. It was me, my husband, our 19 year old son and his 18 year old cousin. Overall we had a great time but there were definitely some highs and lows.
Boarding was super smooth. I was kinda expecting chaos but nope, it was actually really easy and fast which was a good start. The ship itself is beautiful and crazy clean, like spotless everywhere even the island. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. I do wish there was a little more overlap in the age groups for activities tho. Since one kid was 18 and the other was 17 they couldnât do much together which was annoying. I get it, but still.
The elevators were way better than other ships weâve been on. The new system made them faster and we didnât have to wait forever like we usually do. And even though the ship was packed with people, it never really felt crowded which was awesome. Except the smoking section on the pool deck. That was gross and in a terrible spot. You had to walk through it to get anywhere and it was just not great.
We loved the different neighborhoods and the Solarium was our go to. Adults only pools and hot tubs, super chill and quieter. Definitely a nice break from the crowds and noise.
Food was hit or miss. There were a lot of complimentary options which we appreciated but honestly the food was just okay. Not bad, not amazing. The food truck stuff was kind of meh, it was all fried or prepackaged stuff and tasted like fair food that had been sitting out a while. One place we LOVED tho was the Pesky Parrot. Great drinks and such a cool vibe. And speaking of drinks the drink package was totally worth it for us. No limits, even included top shelf stuff and the wine flights were really good. Some of the wines in the flights were actually more premium than what you could usually get with the package so that was a nice surprise.
Service in general was great. Fast and friendly. But it kinda bugged me that the waiters kept asking for a 10 out of 10 rating over and over. It felt a little pushy. Also the dancing waiters thing in the dining room?? I donât know. It just felt kind of demeaning and cringe. Same with the poor Washy Washy guy in Windjammer wearing that ridiculous costume. He was super nice but man that costume was something else.
We also loved that you could order more than one app or entree or dessert in the main dining room. Theyâre smaller portions so itâs nice to try a few different things without wasting food. Room service for breakfast was free if you stuck with cold stuff like coffee juice bagels muffins etc. Hot food cost extra.
Our stateroom was fine. It was clean and we got towel animals which was a fun touch. You can still ask for a printed Cruise Compass which I prefer over using the app all the time. Only complaint there was the shower stuff. Itâs just one dispenser with a 3 in 1 body wash shampoo thing and no separate conditioner which for me was a pain. Also the rooms were too warm for our liking and we couldnât really get it cooler no matter what we did.
Now the shows. Wow. Seriously amazing. Every single one we saw was so well done. Aqua80s was our favorite and they even had towels ready in the splash zone which was a nice touch. I do wish we had more heads up about the theme nights so we couldâve packed better. They combined formal night with a theme night which actually worked out and made formal night a bit more fun and less stuffy.
Biggest regret was just that the cruise was too short. Four nights wasnât enough time to do and see everything. We missed out on a lot the ship had to offer. Next time weâre definitely booking at least a 7 night trip. Overall it was a great experience and we made a ton of memories but thereâs definitely a few...
