First time dining here. When greeted by the hostess and we said party of two she replied with well we only have two 2 seater tables left. She pointed out two square tables (with 4 chairs) in the main walkway. We could clearly see there was another four seater table by the window. Right off the bat that tells me they value bigger parties.
Plus Side- The restaurant was very busy and there was a lot of staff. It wasn’t overly loud and the temperature wasn’t hot or cold. Our waiter Devan came over right away and was happy to answer questions.
We ordered the fish dip, voodoo wings, the shrimp Cuban sandwich, an iced tea, a water and the grills hurricane drink with the souvenir cup. While we were waiting for our food a staff member walked by with a tray of food and dropped it, thankfully it only hit the table and the chairs, not us. Accidents happen, he was ok and we were ok.
The fish dip with captains crackers was ok taste wise, my mom liked it. We had to open each cracker packet.
The unsweet tea tasted fresh. The only positive I can say about the grills hurricane drink is that the cherry and orange slice on top was fresh. The drink was almost tasteless with the exception of the alcohol. The souvenir cup was scratched and not well-made plastic. When Devan came back I asked for juice to add to the drink and he quickly brought back some orange juice. Sadly it did not help the drink at all. He never asked about the drink after dropping off the juice and when I told him at the end I didn’t want the cup due to the scratches, and the drink wasn’t good, he said he’d take care of it.
We asked what the voodoo sauce was and he said it was a mild buffalo. We asked for the wings extra crispy and they came out not crispy and the sauce was almost too hot for my mom to eat, she said it was more like a medium buffalo. She left three of her wings there which she never does.
The sandwich comes with chips. I asked if I could substitute french fries for an up charge. He said yes. The sandwich came out with chips and a side of fries. The plus side is the chips were fresh and the french fries were well seasoned and tasted great. I asked for the zesty secret sauce on the side for the sandwich. It came on the side but he accidentally spilled it on the floor next to my mom when delivering the order and immediately brought a replacement. The sandwich did not taste great despite the many great reviews that I read previously. It was a very thin slice of pork, a good amount of small salad sized shrimp and a piece of provolone with some red peppers in pressed bread. Sounds like it should’ve tasted good (the zesty secret sauce was good) but the sandwich was bland. I tasted the bread more than anything. I think it’s sad when the pickle, potato chips, french fries and fresh fruit tasted better than the sandwich.
When the bill came I was charged $11 for the drink instead of $12. (Or $12.50?) when I asked him was the drink by itself really $11 and he said yes. I again said it was a bad drink he; he apologized and asked me if I wanted him to ask to have the drink removed from the bill. That shouldn’t have been a question. Most of the drink was still there and I said it was bad, it should be obvious to remove it. I might have tried another drink had he offered to replace it. I was charged for a full side of fries.
As a newer local with a lot of food choices around, at $67 for “just ok” food and a bad drink, we likely won’t be back. The french fries were tasty but not enough to...
Read moreWe decided to take family who were in town visiting today. 6 people just before 2pm. Parking was surprisingly not an issue. We arrived. Table inside wait time was 45 minutes. More then 1/2 the tables were empty inside. Outside seating 1st come. We went outside to find table. I found one that just opened up. Right by loud speaker. Other in party went water front and found one. Facing boats with shade and nice breeze. It took 30 minutes for waitress to come by. We ordered drinks and our food at same time. 3 blackened Mahi sandwiches, a cobia sandwich & a Ruben. 1 chicken fingers and an asain shrimp appetizer. Drinks arrive 10 minutes later. Water, teas and 1 beer. 15 minutes appetizer arrives. 6 breaded butterfly frozen bag style shrimp with a sweet spicey sauce. It was ok not really good tho. 15 minutes later Sandwiches are served with chips and pickle slice. They were all pretty sad looking except for the small sub style bread. The bread was good. Small piece of fish. The ruffle style chips were a joke. A small bed of crumbs under the sandwiches. Biggest chip measured 1"x1". I asked how the chicken fingers were as I could tell they didn't care for them. Said ehh they are ok. My husband only ate 3 bites of his sandwich. I took a bite and the blackend seasoning tasted like mosquite you would use on barbq. Never has blackened had this flavor. I asked if anyone wanted my pickle and response was they aren't good. We waited about 30 minutes after finishing eating and I could tell the mood was down in the group. I went inside and found the waitress to get our checks. 2 checks. One being $69 other $54. We tipped 20%. The waitress and bread are only reason I am giving 2 stars. She was friendly. The portions we did eat were small and we were still hungry when we left.
Also the 1st table I stood by to grab I accidentally left something on. So while waiting I went back 30 minutes later to that table see if it was there still. There was a party of 6 seated there who all had drinks and appetizers on the table already. We hadn't even ordered drinks at that point. 1 and done for us. We didn't complain about anything. Brushed it off as food just wasn't good and we were ready to go after being...
Read moreWent there today with my G/F and her son Dominic for his 37th birthday... I've been a local in the area since the 1980s and still love this place! Get the lionfish anytime they have it; they're non-indegenous, are messing up the reef ecosystems because they don't have local natural predators, and they're delicious. Anyhow, as usual, the service was fantastic. You might have to wait a bit on a busy day to get a table. Their seafood is about as fresh as you can get as evidenced by the fleet of commercial and recreational fishing boats moored right outside. Music on the outdoor deck on weekends, they pay for and get some of the best local bands. Dominic and my G/F had the calamari as an appetizer and loved it, followed it up with Elaine having grilled fish-of-the-day with coconut rice and glazed carrots; Dominic had a mahi (dauphin) sandwich with fresh cheddar, and I went with the sesame seared ahi tuna. All were perfect, and served in a timely manner, still piping-hot from the kitchen. Dominic likes their craft beer selection and went with the Dragon Point IPA (older locals know this label for reasons that you'll have to look up yourself). I also highly recommend their Bahamian chowder if you want to try a new take on things. Grills is consistently good at all of their locations, although i prefer the one in Port Canaveral - which on a Saturday afternoon is a perfect place to watch the cruise ships go out while you enjoy a meal, cocktails, and music before you catch the sunset. Indoor and outdoor dining; family- and children friendly with a kids' section on the menu. Also, their "turf" (steak, chicken, pasta) menu items are equally as good (I've tried 'em all). Vegan options available. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you get. Great place to go with friends, for occasions, or just to chill by yourself. As a long-time local, I highly...
