Joann Stores' closing down business date has now been reported to be May 31. Discounts have not been great. Fabrics are still at the expected discount. Many other items are the same as usual with the coupons offered beforehand. I stocked up on thread, zippers and bias tape at 40% off. Still waiting for denim to reduce further.
Now that Joann stores are bankrupt a second time and closing their brick & mortar stores (All locations in South Florida are affected.) everything makes sense about their worker's attitude and service. So sorry for their loss of employment. But, I hope this motivates them to do something that's far beyond what they could have accomplished at Joann. Joann's has a mostly rude staff except at the checkout. The only departments that are tidy and up-to-date are the fabrics and the sewing machines. Otherwise, the displays are messy and jumbled. Sewing patterns sit in boxes and scattered about instead of being filed for customer to purchase. (The pattern that I pictured, has not been availabe for over a month, even though it's in the catalog as available.) The seperating, handbag, extra long and specialty zippers display is a total disaster. The restrooms are disgusting. Before there was Joann's, there was Clothword and before Michael's there was Hancock Fabrics. And before that, there were only local fabric and crafts shops. I've been sewing for over 60 years. I was an apprentice since early childhood to my mother (Which later included home fashions) and aunt (She made ball gown and bridal. They both made hats, gloves and bags.) who were modistas that came to the US from Honduras in the 1950s. (Although Michael's has limited fabrics, their stores far out-do Joann's on a bad day for: store maintainance, organized displays and customer service. Not to mention, Hobby Lobby. Although HL seems to be reducing their fabric and sewing notion selections.) The Home Goods has a...

If you try to park close to anything, you'll likely get trapped! The parking spaces are mostly wide, so that is good. Unlikely to get door dings.
There are a few staple stores, but I'm not sure I want to list them because they are apt to change. Well, I'll try anyway.
Michaels crafts is there. Nice to find just about anything. BUT went there for leather, and they had none. Genuine Naugahyde? Yes, they have that. All you want! But genuine leather? Nope.
Starbucks. Yay!
TJ Maxx -- a gigantic one!
Guitar Center. But I read somewhere they are going out...
Read moreThe Greenery mall has been a local favorite only blocks from one of the largest mall in South Dade. Located just one block west of 826 expressway on Kendall drive, it is an indoor and outdoor mall with one of my favorite stores guitar Center along with a variety of fast food and formal dining as well as a national home furnishing discount chain and a national hobby and arts & crafts store. Walking inside the mall is a bit bleak but most of the locations are accessible from the outside without going in except for the big stores like guitar Center and home...
