I have lived in this area for 34 years. I have used this shopping center since there was once a Giant Food Store where the Aldi is now. When I first moved here in 1986, I attended JEB Stuart High School and frequently went to the Italian store in the lower level of the once indoor Seven Corners shopping mall. My family also frequently went to the Greek Fairfax Inn diner which is now a delicious Filipino diner. The Steak in a Sack Palestinian market and Diner in Bailey's Crossroads which was open 24 hours a day was a great place to stop in after going to all the warehouse night clubs that existed from 86 to 93. Look up my PJ Skidoos restaurant Google review for details. If you couldn't make it all the way to Bailey's Crossroads when coming home from the district you could always stop in the reliable Bob & Edith's Diner on Columbia Pike. For years they had one exceptionally beautiful waitress just like Ramparts in Alexandria. The Palestinians, who ran Steak in a Sack, cooked you a $3 breakfast which included two eggs any style, your choice of meat, hash browns, and coffee. They even had a sit-down 25 cent Miss Pac-Man game which I crushed. I also love and enjoy Two Chef's Pizza (the very best) at George Mason Drive and Wilson Boulevard or Mom's Pizza (2nd best) at Columbia Pike and Glebe Rd. The Weenie Beenie in Shirlington has the very best North Carolina style pork BBQ by the pound with Cole slaw that is almost as good as KFC's. Their Whiting fish sub sandwich is outstanding along with his other fish sandwiches since Dave's Seafood has closed down due to retirement. Anything else on the Weenie Beanie menu your kids and teenagers will love including breakfast. In 1993 I found Dominion Deli in this plaza next to the Giant which happened to have "the best" bacon cheddar burger around for $5. Ron's burger was better than five guys. Once you ate one, you always went back even if it was out of the way. After 40 years the landlord wanted Ron to put a million dollars in to refurbishing the restaurant. He decided to retire faced with the oncoming Biden / Obummer economy. There is a Five Guys in this plaza now in the location of Kevin Grieves restaurant & bar which was a great place for 40 years. 5 Guys is good but a little bit pricey. They have a wonderful bacon milkshake. Another great place for a burger is the Weenie Beanie in Shirlington or make your own at home. That is what I do. The best chicken is Edy's Chicken & Steak in Falls Church's Skyline, Va. or Grange de Oro on Annandale road across from Bill Page Toyota. Here you must try their chicken, ceviche mixto, Pacena beer, and peruvian salad bar....

I have recently heard and read about the staff at Tortas y Tacos La Chiquita II in Yorktown Plaza refusing service to first responders & to one of our Fairfax County Co-Responder Units. I have been a supporter of the immigrant community-both in my work & personally. I have written, called & protested on their behalf. In fact, my own great-grandparents were immigrants to this country. I cannot imagine the fear & terror that immigrants are living with in this country.
I am also a member of a Co-Responder Unit. Do you know who works in a Co-responding Unit? A clinician & an officer. Do you know what First Responders do? They come to help you when no one else will. DO YOU KNOW that one of the people you turned away is a child of an immigrant? Fear breads hate. With the excuse of safety you have added hate to all the hate.. and you actually used the words “you’re not welcome here….” Where have I heard that before?
I will be sure that the community knows your restaurant does not welcome the helpers.

Read moreThis shopping plaza is a one stop shop type of plaza. You can go to Aldi to do your grocery shopping. Drop off your returns at the UPS store. Go to CVS and pick up your prescriptions. Do your bank run at Bank of America. Get some food at Five Guys, Papa John's, or the new taco place. There's also a Pho and Thai place. If you need a phone, there's an authorized AT&T store. Once you've done all your errands, you can get gas at the Shell. It's a bit pricey but convenient. They also have a service bay if you come upon some car trouble. I will say that getting in and out of the shopping center can be a bit of a headache....
