If you’re looking for a place that combines exceptional food, cozy ambiance, and top-notch service, Mamey is the spot to visit. I recently had the pleasure of spending a leisurely lunch there with friends, and it turned out to be an experience worth raving about. From the incredible flavors to the inviting atmosphere and thoughtful service, this restaurant hits all the right notes for a memorable outing. Located in a vibrant yet tranquil setting, Mamey has an unmistakable charm. The interior is warm and welcoming, with tropical touches that make you feel as though you’ve been whisked away to an island escape. It’s cozy and stylish without being pretentious, making it an ideal place to relax and enjoy quality time with friends. One important tip for anyone planning a visit: avoid arriving too close to 2 PM. The kitchen and bar close at 3 PM to prepare for their evening service, which resumes at 5 PM. While this timing could be a bit limiting, it’s worth planning around because the food is absolutely phenomenal. The dishes we tried were nothing short of amazing. Each plate was a celebration of bold, fresh flavors with a tropical twist that’s both unique and comforting. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a variety of options that cater to different tastes, and every bite was a testament to the chef’s creativity and attention to detail. What really made our afternoon special, though, was our server. Their exceptional service and genuine enthusiasm added a personal touch to the experience. Friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, our server went above and beyond to make sure we had an unforgettable time. Their positive energy truly elevated the atmosphere and left us all smiling long after the meal was over. After 5 PM, the restaurant terrace comes alive with a fantastic happy hour. Drinks are half-price, and the terrace provides a stunning view of the sunset, making it the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the golden hour with friends. The combination of good company, refreshing cocktails, and a breathtaking view is nothing short of magical. Mamey is more than just a restaurant—it’s a destination. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing lunch, a great place to catch up with friends, or a lively happy hour spot, this place delivers on all fronts. The thoughtful details, from the food to the ambiance and service, reflect a commitment to creating an exceptional dining experience.
I highly recommend visiting Mamey, especially if you’re in the mood for a laid-back yet vibrant vibe. Just be sure to time your visit to fully enjoy either their lunch offerings or their terrace happy hour. I’ll definitely be back, and next time, I plan to stick around for sunset—it’s too...
Read moreIn a year that has brought much uncertainty to the world and the food world, one of the most anticipated restaurants of the year has still managed to open its doors in Miami — Mamey by Niven Patel. A member of Food & Wine magazine’s “Best New Chefs” class of 2020 and a James Beard Award nominee, Patel is best known for his Kendall eatery Ghee Indian Kitchen, so we were more than excited to take a first look at his latest creation.
One of our favorite things about Patel is that he sources a great deal of fruit, vegetables and herbs for his restaurants from Rancho Patel, his two-acre farm in Homestead. That produce is the star of many of his dishes, including starters that are perfect for sharing. Some of our favorites included the Vietnamese Caesar Salad made with Opal Basil, Parmigiano, Crispy Shallots, Croutons; the Roasted Beet Salad; the Yellowfin Tuna Tostones with tomato sofrito, scallion and piquillo pepper aioli; Tuna Poke; Corn & Callaloo Empanadas; Ghee Roasted Plantains made with Jerk Spiced Crema, Pickled Onions, Herbs; and the Ceviche with Coconut Leche de Tigre, Cachucha Peppers, Cilantro, Red Onion, and Avocado.
Larger dishes that were standouts include the Peri Peri Chicken with Thyme Roasted Potato, Broccolini, Meyer Lemon; Lemongrass Glazed Grouper with Bok Choy, Heirloom Carrots, Bamboo Rice, Thai Curry; and the Wagyu Churrasco with Yucca. Island Spinach, and Red Pepper Chimichurri. And of course you can’t forget dessert with the Jamaican Rum Cake with Toffee Sauce, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream; Churros with Cinnamon Sugar, Chipotle, Mexican Chocolate Sauce; and the table’s favorite, Key Lime Cheesecake Flan, yes – you read that correctly.
It wouldn’t be a full meal without cocktails, created by the Bar Lab team. Our favorites included the Que Banana made with Banana Infused Gin, Tiki Spice, Pimento Dram, Lime Juice; the Jerk Margarita with Agave, Fresh Watermelon, Jerk Infused Strawberry, Citrus; and the Island Fever.
Don’t sleep on this exciting Caribbean-inspired destination by one of Miami’s favorite chefs. Until then, enjoy some...
Read moreMy family and I had dinner here this past weekend and we LOVED it. The ambiance is relaxed and so nice. The service was very attentive and our server described everything we ordered perfectly. The food was excellent. There is not one complaint about any of the plates we tried and we tried A LOT of them.
I will start with my favorite one, the white truffle and Brie grilled cheese! This was so good we ordered it three times! The bread is perfectly toasted the Brie is perfectly melted but the star of the show is that guava sauce that you dip the sandwich in WOW!
After that we ordered the Ghee roasted plantains. These plantains are not your regular fried sweet plantains these are smothered in a few delicious sauces and mixes. From the moment you bite into it you mouth waters and when you think you’ve gotten the taste of it settled it taste like something else equally delicious. I don’t know what other way to explain that but these plantains are amazing!
From them we moved to the yellowfin tuna tostones. The tuna was very fresh and well flavored. The tostones were fried to perfection. These were yummy!
Then we ordered the Wahoo ceviche. We loved this because it sweet and citric in one and the fish is fresh like they just fetched it from the ocean.
The last “appetizer” we ordered was the Florida Watermelon. None of expected the explosion of flavors in this plate. It is like a salad with two wedges of watermelon, goat cheese, tomato, cucumber, radishes, pickles Fresno, mint, tamarind, and peanuts. Peanuts? That was weird to me too but it was a perfect blend of flavors!
After that we had the shishito peppers which you can never go wrong with. We munched on these before the entrees.
For the entree we had hogfish, which I had never had before and I am now a fan. It was a flaky flavorful white fish. That came on a bed of rice. It was very delicious!!
The dessert was chosen by our waiter. He brought is the rum cake. SO GOOD!! Definitely our...
