If you plan on getting you film developed do NOT bring it here. I used to love Powell Camera but after what they did I will NEVER be doing business with them again. This past August I dropped off my film as normal and I usually get my pictures back in about a week. Two weeks had gone by since I dropped off my film and I hadn't heard anything so I decided to call the shop, they then inform me that my photos have been "misplaced" along with 20 other rolls of film. What is so aggravating and baffling to me is the shop owner, Mark, and his employee never once reached out to me to tell me the situation and I was the one always contacting them for updates! It was if they had no care in the world when they should've been doing anything and everything to make the situation better. They were always so dismissive and made me feel dumb for even being upset that my pictures are gone! It's absolutely ridiculous!!!! After literally MONTHS of my photos being missing I decided to go into the shop asking for answers and Mark said to compensate he would give me a free roll of film, but of course they didn't have any in stock that day so he said to come back. When I went back I arrived and Mark was not there but his other employee met me with attitude and very hesitantly gave me the roll of film. It's the LEAST they could do after leaving me in the dark for MONTHS and the whole way the situation was handled. Overall, I find the business to be very untrustworthy and I will never be bringing my business back. Very...
Read moreGreat ‘old school’ camera store that get harder and harder to find. Good selection of film. Great selection of used film gear. Also decent amount of home processing gear. Lots of lighting equipment. They seem to buyout photographers or maybe shops that are going out of biz so they have a real eclectic variety of stuff. Especially oddball do-hickeys and ‘thing-a-magigs’ You know when you’re putting together a tabletop still life and you need to position a flag just so but you don’t have a thingy that hold the flag and attached to the boom? They got those! Great price on used processing equipment. They also offer lab services for film, process and scan, print, whatever you’d like. A little low on chemicals but so are all stores. Can’t just ship a gallon of d-76 around anymore. The guys that run the place are very nice and extremely knowledgeable. I witnessed one teaching a father and son the basics of metering with a handheld meter in about 15 min. Try getting that from Amazon! Probably one of the best collection of used film equipment I’ve seen out here on the eastern edge of LA County. Def check them out, they can use the biz and I’d hate to see another one close their doors! Been there for...
Read moreI wanted to support a local business by buying my camera at Powell Camera Shop. Since it was not in stock, it had to be ordered and I was told it would take about 1 week. One week later I called to check on the status and was told that it had shipped. However after 2 more weeks went by and I called again, I was told that it had not shipped and was only "allocated". The worker at the camera shop told me he would call Canon and find out what is going on, and that he would call me back later in the day. He never called back. So I went into the store the next day to ask what is going on. I was told the same thing; that they would call Canon and get back to me. Once again they did not get back to me. This is poor customer service. I decided to get the camera somewhere else and I cancelled my order. I realize that the switch from shipped status to "allocated" status is an issue with Canon, but it was not good customer service for Powell to not get back to me on two occasions to provide an update as they...
