I’ve shopped here for years off and on when I visit Missouri (I live across the river in IL). It used to be one of my favorite thrift stores! The last time I was in, however, was a terrible experience for me. And unfortunately, has left me unsure of whether or not I will return. This is a long story so please bare with me... My grandmother, husband, 2-year old daughter and myself were out thrifting and we decided to stop in at this location of St Vincent de Paul as our last stop of the day. We checked online at the hours, which clearly stated the store closed at 8 PM. We entered the store a little after 6 PM(?) and began to shop. Shopping with a 2-year old is an adventure all on its own (especially when there are toys around she wanted to play with!). Around 7PM, we were trying to decide whether or not to purchase a motorized kids “four wheeler” based on if it needed a charger etc. as we were trying to research what it took to keep it charged, I overheard the employees talking and saying how “rude they are” (speaking of us) and how “we closed at 7...” etc. so I went to my grandma to let her know that the hours online must have been wrong because they were closing. Before I could even get to her to let her know, a young woman who works there came up and said to us “we’re closed now so you need to come check out.” Very bluntly. I was extremely thrown off by her rudeness as we hadn’t been given a warning of the store closing (usually a store gives a 10-15 min warning to customers or something) and we were only going based on the information we had for the store hours. We decided to leave that four wheeler and check out with the items we had known we wanted. As we walked to the check out, I overheard the young woman talking to an older woman (who I assumed to have been more seniority since she was counting the drawer of one of the registers) Talking about us AGAIN... in front of us... so I asked the other cashier while she was checking out our items (this was a third worker) what their hours were & I explained that we were under the impression that they closed at 8 because that’s what it said online. I apologized, and explained that we also had no warning beforehand to have any way to know they closed at 7. She was understanding, but then the young woman who had been so blunt before stepped up to her and began to have a conversation with the cashier who was checking us out about other customers who were in there. She was talking badly about them too. Then she proceeded to say to her something like, “Well, I’ll tell you the details later...I wish you knew Spanish because then I could just tell you right now!” I guess she just assumed that none of the people in my party could speak Spanish? (Which would be a wrong assumption, by the way!). I just feel that the employees were extremely rude to be talking about the customers right in front of our faces. Multiple times. When we had NO way of knowing the “winter” hours since they weren’t updated online yet... it was upsetting, and if that’s how they want to treat loyal customers, I don’t know if I want to come back.. I’m not sure if I have done a good job of explaining how rude they were, but it really got my blood boiling. I left there having not said much, but knowing that I’d be leaving this review. I didn’t catch their names, but I hope That they see this and know their actions can hurt feelings and can cost their...
Read moreOk Wow, this thrift store is amazing! I have been to 100s of thrift stores in my life and this was one of the best ones by far. The people working here were so friendly, the prices are amazing, the variety was there like they had a little of everything (decor, paintings, baby gear, furniture, workout stuff, toys, clothes, DVDs, even school supplies) and it was all in great shape. I got items that I would have expected to pay $5-10 for only like $1-3 each! I was even surprised to get to check out and find that many of my items were 50% off that day, which was a great surprise!! :) These days a lot of resale shops are price gouging crazy high prices (like $140 for used furniture??) just because they can with inflation or whatnot, but that is so sad as the people shopping here are doing so often out of need and to be gouged on prices for things that were donated is insane. This place doesnt do that. They even had a double stroller for $10 and chairs/tables for like $30. Highly recommend...
Read moreToday, I experienced the feeling of being welcomed with love. The two women that assisted my little boy and I were kind, patient, compassionate, generous, generous, and so much more. I'm 38 years old. I've lived in Saint Louis, MO. This was the first time I've experienced anything even close to how Jesus asked us to treat each other. I'm crying right now thinking about how sweet they were. I rarely get out because I don't have transportation. It's hard to get anyone to take me anywhere. I've been stuck in my house for 2 months before, without anyone. This was the first time I've gotten to shop for clothes for myself in a physical store since I was in my late 20's I believe.
I met good people today. Even some customers! I wish life was like this more often, but I'm grateful to have experienced this.. this one time to know it's real. Samantha and the young blonde woman working together at the Creve Coeur Saint Vincent Thrift...
