They're Oooey... they're Goooey... and they are a St. Louis staple - Food Hounds... I'd like to welcome you to the famous Gooey Louie's! Now let's not get it twisted, at first glance - the location may not look like your ordinary bakery. There is a VERY good reason for this folks, it's NOT an ordinary bakery! Simplicity is key when producing these little pockets of chewy, gooey love. They don't need a huge display... they don't need a large staff - heck, if they didn't need a kitchen, they wouldn't even need a storefront. They let the product speak for itself; and it does - time and time again!
Now, these buttery bites of love are baked from scratch daily; so they do not make an overabundance of each of flavor as to not have any cake left at day's end without being placed in a hungry home. You'll need to get there early in order to have the 'pick of the litter' - well worth the effort of waking up early! Now the flavors... they have a wide variety of fun flavors to choose from to ease your sugar crave and please your sweet tooth. Some great cakes to try would be the Turtle Park, Let's Go Blueberry and the Chocolate Peanut Butter. On this visit, we indulged in the Original - a STL classic in the form of a vanilla, yellow crust and the original vanilla goo! The Chocolate Raspberry was delightfully decadent - a chocolate crust with rich golden goo and fresh raspberry chunks embedded into this pillow of a buttery treat! Not many things can top these sugary, goopy, gobs of artery blocking goodness that dreams are made of - so at some point in your life; you need to try this stuff at least once.
Meanwhile, if you are looking for something cute to package your freshly purchased cake in for a special occasion... they have a plethora of custom boxes to choose from including but not limited to Birthdays, Get Well Soon, Anniversary and more. There is a reason that this place has won BEST Gooey Butter Cake four years in a row - I'm glad to have had the opportunity to get my fill while in town. Until next time in STL my ooey gooey loves......
Read moreI contacted Gooey Louie for mini cakes to add to our welcome wedding bags since they are delicious and have adorable packaging. I was grateful to learn that they could also put together the entire welcome bag! Debbie, the owner was so easy to work with and more than willing to utilize my suggestions. I was thrilled that she created a personalized label with the bride and groom’s name along with the St Louis arch to match our color scheme. This one stop shopping was a huge help to me in planning the wedding, especially since I live out of town. I was excited to include all Missouri made or St Louis themed products. Debbie even delivered the completed beautiful bags directly to the hotel where are guests we’re staying. Everyone loved them! I stopped at the new store today and was happy to see Debbie there, as friendly as always. The place is adorable and offers lots of fun gift and food items. It’s obvious she is passionate about what she does and goes above and beyond to exceed expectations. I would absolutely recommend Gooey Louie for any gift or event that you want to...
Read moreThey sold my pre-ordered cake to someone else, when I had just ordered it the day before. This business is run TERRIBLY. They stay open after they run out of cakes, don’t answer the phone when someone calls, and sell other people’s pre-ordered cakes. On Friday I ordered a cake for Saturday at 11am. Unfortunately I got busy with family activities and arrived a couple hours after the pick-up time to find out they sold my pre-ordered cake! I was supposed to arrive at 11, but came at 12:45 instead. They are open until 5, so I didn’t think it would be a big deal. They never told me there was a chance of them selling my cake if I came late, and they never asked for my phone number so they couldn’t even call me to ask if I was coming later than expected. They just sold my cake. Wasted over 2 hours of driving trying to get one of their cakes. Never going back. Way too frustrated with this business. I will just buy gooey butter cakes from a grocery store instead. Way cheaper and still...
