I have so much admiration and appreciation for this store. Like so many of you, I tapped into gifts and talents - mostly creative outlets - to stay sane during the shutdown and Pandemic's quarantining period. For me, that was returning to my love of sewing.
Hobby Lobby, respectfully closed during much of that period to protect its workers, its suppliers and its customers. I value that decision.
Recently, they re-opened. A store I once passed and ignored now feels like home away from home. It has a lot to do with the beautiful souls inside of it. Shout out to Mrs. Mary at the cutting counter and Mrs. Carolyn, the cashier. These ladies are sweet women who you can see love their work and their employer. When you treat your people right, they treat their customers right. JoAnn can take a cue from this book.
Anywho, I love how neat and clean the fabric section of the store is. All of the patterns are neatly placed and organized in the drawer. The tables with the pattern books and magazines are reminiscent of an era gone. They are those old slanted, architecture type tables that prop up the books for you. The fabrics bolts are all nicely organized and properly displayed. The only thing I'd gripe about - if I had to - is that I wished they had more notions. Besides that, this place is the closest thing to heaven for a seamstress. I wont even bother with JoAnn unless I can get to the one in Fairfax. I'll come right here where they value...
Read moreI don’t usually frequent this location due to the lack of customer service. However, I was in need of supplies to fulfill an order and my usual location was out of stock.
Sherri at the fabric counter was neither helpful nor friendly throughout the entire interaction. She behaved as though my mere presence was an inconvenience to her. Based on previous experiences and this one too, the associates at the fabric section are never knowledgeable of the store policies and protocols. If asked at question they don’t have the answer to they attempt to make up and answer assuming you wouldn’t know. In this particular instance Sherri called for an assistant manager Ms Mary who proceeded to reiterate that which was already said to her. When I made a suggestion that would possibly eliminate these type of issues from arising in the future; Ms. Mary gave an inadequate excuse for Sherri’s lack of knowledge and inefficiency. I assume it was to save face. Hopefully they get this together. I never have this issue with any of the other locations I visit. ( Fredericksburg is AMAZING!!! Every associate, every visit.)
Judy at the register was extremely kind. Her amiable disposition made up for the awful experience I had prior to my...
Read moreSo more and more the hobby lobby seems to be pushing towards prepackaged things as opposed to being an actual hobby shop. Like if you go back and look at the framing section for example, the frame sizes and everything are geared to really force you to buy a custom frame from them as opposed to buying a standard frame.
We got a lot of issues with the family who runs hobby lobby. They're racist, xenophobic right-wing nationalists so I've got some problems there. And you can see it when you go inside and you look at the stuff they offer. A lot of religious paraphernalia and if you go to the military section for some reason it's running wild with second amendment stuff... Which has nothing to do with the military for those of you who served know. In all of the books that are for sale and there are religious in nature and not actually geared towards hobbies.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot of options when it comes to that kind of stuff locally here in Northern Virginia. I do tend to try Michaels first and then Amazon but if I need it fast I do go to...
