My wife visited this store to purchase a replacement concealed carry holster for me so we could visit the State Fair of Texas. She decided to only carry my 3-month-old son in her Bjorn baby carrier instead of getting the whole stroller out for a quick trip. She went inside, visited the restroom, then went to the gun department and asked for assistance to find the holster I needed. After, she went straight to the register and checked out with the item using her credit card... She went straight out of the exit and to her car. When she had taken the baby out of the carrier to put him in the car seat she heard a grunt and an "excuse me" from behind her. Completely startled and scared, she turned around to have a large man, less than 2 feet away from her tell her, "I need your bag to search for evidence of stolen items." Mind you this is in the parking lot and not within the legal bounds of the store... My wife, scared for the safety of our son and herself didn't even ask him to identify himself because she figured if he was going to rob her he would just take the bag and run. He shuffled through her bag then told her "we've had lots of thefts" before turning to walk back inside the store; no identification and no apology. She immediately called me panicking and not even able to process what just happened to her. I immediately called the store and was told by the manager on duty that, "none of my employees would do this and I'm sorry you had an experience like this. Probably just a bum or something.. We've had problems with that in this area." I demanded a call back on Monday (as it was Saturday and I figured the people who could actually take action were off for the weekend), but when that never happened I went for a personal visit on Tuesday. At this point I met with a different manager who proceeded to show me the security videos claiming the whole time is wasn't their employee. I left feeling as though something didn't sit right because he only showed me interior video which clearly shows she did nothing that would have caused suspicion. I then remembered a comment he made. He had mentioned the exterior video had a different time stamp so the video I was being shown was meant to mislead me into thinking the exterior cameras were too blurry to see my wife leave the store at the same timestamp as the interior cameras. I called corporate and had a 30-minute conversation describing all of this in detail. They told me I'd receive a call back within 3-day; I didn't receive a call back after a whole week. I then commented on how disappointed I was on their facebook page. I received a call back from a shaky lady who sounded like she was tasked with getting rid my annoying complaint. She literally couldn't answer any of my basic questions. She then conference called another individual who was supposedly the Regional manager. He told me it's not really something they could do anything about as their security company is a third party... He offered me a $40 gift card and wanted me to visit the store again for a better experience... I'd like to end this review with two statements. First, I've been a patron of Academy since I was a child. I used to beg my parents to take me to Academy so I could spend my hard earned allowance there. I can't believe that I have to pursue legal options to rectify a situation that could have been handled on multiple occasions, but was only escalated due to incompetence. Second, I have retained an attorney who edited and approved this...
Read moreI went to the store in Dallas TX on Central Expressway and Forest and will NEVER go there again!!!! Went there with a X-mas gift card to buy an overnight bag and a fishing rod and to renew my yearly fishing licence. I went to the customer service lane and waited for all the refunds in front of me to be served. After almost 30 minutes it was my turn. I had my licence in hand and told the clerk I wanted to renew it. He NEVER even looked at it, but rang up a $5.00 stamp plus my 2 items. Then he told me I had to go to # 9 to get my licence. NEXT a clerk in another lane said she could help me only to find that the 1st clerk charged me for the wrong one (which I knew and tried to tell the 1st one). Then she charged me for a different licence which ALSO wasn't what I had asked for and told me that I STILL had to go to number 9 to pick up the licence. I ASKED for the manager and he told me that the SECOND clerk hadn't sold me the right licence either ( which I KNEW and tried to explain to her). NOW THE MANAGER GOT INVOLVED. THINK it worked?? HELL NO, He was telling the clerk to sell me a licence that the STATE DOESN'T MAKE !!!! Finally the clerk told me I STILL owed more money (paid in 3 Different lanes). NOW I have to get a calculator out to find out what I finally paid for this experience. I have lived in 5 different states and 10 cities and every time I went to get my licence I went to the sporting goods counter and got EVERYTHING done at ONE TIME. ACADEMY thinks they have a better idea, but I WILL ARGUE THIS POINT. If I could I'd give this...
Read moreFirst of all I want to say I'm not a needy customer and I don't often need help. But on Thursday I went to two different academy sports and two different dicks sporting goods. My quest two bicycles one for myself add one for my roommate. Out of the four visits I spent between 10 and 15 minutes in each bike department. I went from the front door directly to the bikes. Nobody in all four stores made eye contact, recognized me or acknowledged me in any way shape or form. After leaving the last dicks sporting goods I went next door to Best buy I needed ink when I walked into the store I was immediately greeted . That person also asked if they can point me in a direction. I went to the printer department and was greeted by at least three people on the way there. Unfortunately they didn't have the ink I need , I mentioned that to the girl as I was leaving and she asked was there a Best buy close to where I lived? I said yes she called and had the ink at the front counter at the store closest to my house waiting for me. Best buy and Academy Sports get your recruiter over to that Best buy store and hire the manager whoever him/her is. Because that's a culture and if I went in four stores in one day and had horrendous service in each one of the four stores I guarantee you whomever is over your district or region of Dallas has no idea what type of culture customer...
