This is one of the best and one of the most unusual libraries in the Dallas Public Library system. It's located south of White Rock Hills, just past I30 in a very nice middle to upper middle class neighborhood. Beautiful Everglade Park is just across the street, as is a DART bus stop.
The library grounds are liberally planted with trees, both deciduous and evergreen. The building appears low to the ground, with a steep brown shingled roof and off-white stucco exterior. The landscaping is very pleasing to the eye and twin benches outside the entrance welcome you to sit for a spell.
The interior is quite surprising: high vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, an appearance which brought to my mind a ski lodge. This is further reinforced by the upper section, closed except for meetings and activities, accessed by a steep stairway. Also, there is an actual fireplace in the Children's section! A librarian informed me that it is actually functional.
In part because the building is sectioned off by arched dividers and walls, and partly because the steep roof causes the ceiling to drop down to 8' at the walls, the library has an intimate feel. Groupings of comfortable chairs with tables help accentuate that feeling.
I'm very happy to report that the library has a really big selection of Adult Fiction and Nonfiction, as well as Children's and Spanish-language books. The other sections, including CDs, DVDs and PCs, are all more than adequately supplied. I think it's great that the library appears to have sacrificed nothing by having such a wonderfully large selection of books.
Worth a trip, even if you don't live in the...
Read moreI been coming to the Skyline library for many years and have been very pleased until today. My child was playing with a block set they just got and apparently was making loud noise. Instead of nicely asking him to keep the noise down a elderly lady that works there went over to my son and rudely told him he was making a lot of noise and people had complaints, she told him she was not going to come back and tell him again. Keep in mind she was practically yelling. I did not appreciate the way she was talking to him so I told her he had no idea people were complaining and that blocks make noise, he is only a child. She raised her voice at me and rudely told me that I should sit him down next to me and watch him. I told her the library should not have blocks then since they make a lot of noise and told her to have a good day. She yelled and sarcastically told me to have a great day. To me this is terrible, I do not appreciate her talking to me and my son that way, she should be helping us not disrespecting us. I definitely will not be...
Read moreThis place is a waste of my time! One of the staff that works there, was very helpful the use of the computer until i wanted to access some information about a car i was working on. Then I was informed that her particular Dallas location and other Dallas libraries doesn't offer this service, except the central downtown location. I told her that i have successfully accessed the "ALLDATA" website at other Dallas libraries locations. She spoke to me as if it was just making this up,because her "27 years of working for this location and downtown central library branch". So I just let her stay on her high horse and went to another location! I went to the Lake Location in Pleasant Groove access the "ALLDATA's website" and Got the information i needed ! The lady at the Jim Miller branch, needs to be demoted to janitorial services! At least she'll still have a job! Being informative shouldn't be...
