Frugal Muse Books, Music and Video — Attraction in Darien

The shop itself as okay; not a great selection and a lot of things were in pretty rough shape, but prices were mostly low to match that. However, the service I received from one particular employee ruined my first experience here. I went to the counter to make my purchase and was met by a middle aged man, possibly a manager? He was initially cheerful and friendly, and then as I handed him my card to make a purchase, he asked if I could pay cash. I said 'sorry, no, I don't have cash on me', he suddenly completely changed his attitude with me. He was silent, rushing what he was doing, and tossed my card to the counter as well as my purchase instead of you know, handing it to me like a decent person. As I was leaving I read a sign that said they preferred cash payment, but their registers have VISA, American Express, etc stickers, and they have a card reader hooked up. I'm sorry I didn't have cash with me, but it gives no excuse to treat customers with obvious disdain. They are still paying customers. I will...

Nice store, very organized for a used book, music video store. The books are grouped by topic or genre and some by topic are listed in alphabetic order by author. The store was clean and well lit and nicely set up where you can move around. The books are about 1/2 of the originsl listing price and it also depends on the condition of the book. I'm not sure what they do for book donations if they'll take any, what will they not take, do you get store credit etc. They did have a dollar or under book cart outside which is nice as well. I checked some of the albums and they were resealed so you really can't look at the albums and the price of the few I did look at were $9.99, I didn't look at anything else. Prime place to look for books cheap is at your local library, most have a for sale cart where books are 25cents to 75cents for hardcover. These are books that I guess are rotated out. I've been a loyal customer of Frugal Muse for years and this review is long overdue. It's really refreshing and a genuine relief to have the ability, especially in these times of online shopping , to browse [first hand/on site] such a great collection of music (compact discs, LPs, cassettes), DVD/Blu-Ray, and...of course: Books! The selection is very impressive and it's fun to visit their inventory on a regular/routine basis to see what's been traded in, new releases, etc. Paul and his team are great and go out of their way to help locate items on the shelves, source them for customers at a discount, and basically do all that they can to ensure you find what it is you're looking for.
