A look at one of the earliest surviving storefronts in Dayton's Oregon District and how it was nearly lost for good. #daytonvistas #dayton #daytonohio #daytonhistory #oregondistrict #historicpreservation #oldbuilding #commercialarchitecture #historicdistrict

a short historic block with lots of interesting murals and architecture. and some ā€œinterestingā€ stores along this block that shows how ā€œliberalā€ this city is in some parts which is great!! this is a quaint area that reminds me of oldtown areas in other areas of the country. definitely a unique location. didnt try any of the restaurants but likely some good places to eat as well. there seemed to be a relaxed amount of foot traffic but wasnt busy at all in the early afternoon hours in the month of november. i probably should have checked out some of the stores but i didnt something about the area felt a bit uneasy but could be the vibe of the entire city due to the over abundant run-down buildings throughout the city. the city itself has been on decline the same way as cincinatti, cleveland, saint louis and detroit since its hay day of the 1950s and 1960s. i personally find urban decay beautiful but its like a symptom of a disease and a sign that a city is in decline. a local landlord described dayton as ā€œup and comingā€ and oregon historic district is clearly being worked into a quaint (maybe hipster) locale with lots of places that work to invoke nostalgia or perhaps novelty to those that arent used to the historic aspects of ohio. this is a must visit locale when in dayton and one must not ignore a thorough drive through the city to note the many abandoned buildings with history.

I love the Oregon District and all the shops, dining, and activities it holds! It can get crowded, loud, and rowdy at times, but is definitely worth checking out. I enjoy wandering shop to shop and grabbing some dinner. Nightlife is popular here too! The Oregon is the heart of Dayton in my opinion.

Spending the day as William and Joanne might have imagined, or could've hoped for, has been something blissful. At least since high noon. I'm in it, even still. The Flora is amazing and the fauna is lush. The cat nap on the lawn was a godsend, certainly. As I enjoy a light breeze in the shade I can't help but admire the scenery. This hustle is unbelievable. But I defer to Spongebob on that on. He's the expert when it comes to...

I went here during the day for some shopping and lunch. The shops were hit and miss. The boutiques were adorable, but stores like the book shop were dusty old fire traps. I actually had to leave the bookstore after a few minutes because the dust made it hard to breath. All in all, the shopping takes about an hour so it isn't an all day activity, but still...
