It's a Pizza/Italian American food diner style restaurant, an old fashioned candy shop, an cream parlor, bird sanctuary (petting zoo) and a strawberry farm ALL IN ONE ! Located in a nondescript small "strip mall".
Very good pizza & Italian food. I ordered the eggplant caprese stack (served chilled layers of fried eggplant big tomato slices, homemade mozzarella, home made chunky pesto ) and the meatballs (4 jumbo yummy meatballs, beautiful homemade thick sauce, dressed with ricotta and shredded basil served with 3 garlic knots on top). Both are generous appetizers, I ordered them together for lunch and was stuffed, needed help to finish My mom had the Italian Tonno Salad with capers and roasted peppers etc which was great for only $10. NO KIDS MENU but appetizer menu has small simple options. My 8 yr old had pizza. We didn't partake of the huge shakes or massive shareable unicorn sundaes this time but instead grabbed cones / cups on the way out after my kiddo spent 15mins selecting one special candy out of hundreds. Last time we shared the famous fresh strawberry shake and it was AWESOME, thick with fresh strawberries. Large booths seat 4 very comfortably or 6 if youd like to squeeze. There are smaller little round tables for two down the center of the room and one large round booth at the back for bigger groups. The restaurant gets packed during typical mealtimes. We made sure to grab a table by 1230pm for lunch with a hungry kid. By 1pm they were full and busy. There are usually only two servers so keep in mind that service may get a little slow during the busiest times.
Now, the outside... out back is a lovely patio leading to a BIRD PARADISE ($5 entry fee, $2 for Sr to support the bird sanctuary & rescue mission). Its a beautifully landscaped small oasis perfect for exploration by kids, grandparents and anyone who is interested in seeing these lucky creatures up close. Unfortunately both times weve been here were Tuesday's and are the day that Petting Zoo is closed so there aren't any handlers doing the bird visits... we haven't yet experienced holding them. But, I heard from another family and kids that its a blast. You will wander through the shaded landscaped "jungle" and see all types of parrots and birds very well kept in cages or huge communal enclosures. At entry, bird or goat food is avail for purchase. The birds are so well fed that your food may just seem redundant, goats on the other hand will always eat. Attendants that work here are constantly feeding, slicing fresh fruit for, checking in on and cleaning the enclosures and interacting with the birds and animals. The whole place is kept VERY CLEAN. These lucky residents are very interested in socializing and interacting with visitors and are in beautiful condition. Except for just a couple of rescued birds who are still adjusting or being tended through some anxiety. There's also a mining / sifting setup for kids to pan for "gems & fossils" the $7 bag of gems never disappoints (fossils aren't as WOW) & keeps kids & grandma busy. The hand water pump duck racing is a hoot (secret... the small plain $1 ducks are the fastest ones, get those for the smallest kids). There's a mini goat town that is very charming esp if you bought food at entry.
Your entry sticker allows you in and out of the sanctuary so we started with a visit in back, then lunch, then went back for the mining, rubber duck racing, fed the fish and got ice cream to go. It's now our fave half day on the way to the airport meal/activity. * Strawberry Season is later Dec-April, we haven't done the U-pick strawberries yet * NOTE: there's Holiday Lights /Santa setup every year starting last week in November, entry for this is $7. The increase pays for extra staff, electricity, lights, raises funds for the rescue mission etc. We haven't been here during the holiday season yet so don't know...
Read moreIf you are up for a surprising adventure them this place is for you! As a first-timer, we made it into the parking lot where Google maps took us and immediately thought that we were cat fished. We were told that there was a huge petting zoo with exotic birds, reptiles, rabbits, miniature horses and other animals that we could pet and feed. Yet here we were in this small crowded parking lot in front of a little strip mall. We saw the signs for Girls Strawberry picking and said "well it's not what we were expecting, but let's check it out". Opening the door to the shop is like walking through a time capsule! You are immediately enchanted with all of the decor from floor to ceiling. Then you witness the hustle and bustle from the pizza shop to your right, the ice cream counter straight ahead and the restaurant seating to your left. It was shockingly cool. As we slowly made our way through all of the things to look at, we passed the world's largest gumball machine, which my kids loved! As we make our way through this crazy busy atmosphere, still thinking we arent in the right spot, we spot a sign on the ceiling that directed us to the back door of the "restaurant". We go through the door and that's when the shock and awe really set in. There it was! A HUGE outdoor area consisting of all the things that we were told about! Thousands of exotic birds, free ranging goats, donkeys, rabbits, bunny's, horses, reptiles and fish- Oh My!! We made our way around the hidden walkways and were pleasantly surprised around every turn. The interactive enclosure where the kids could hold little bunnies was the icing on the cake! I could not believe that this oasis existed behind a tiny little strip mall in the middle of the city. The admission was more than fair for the experience that we got. Along with all the animals, they have the strawberry fields to pick your own when they are in season, and even a family train ride at the end of the journey. We had such a great time there that I know my girls will want to go back every time we...
Read moreWas going to give it a one star, however, the restaurant portion of the whole place wasnât bad compared to the animal portion of it. The food was great but itâs very uncomfortable walking around and seeing animals, specifically the birds, in small cages or worse, different types of bird species together in one big cage. No macaws, African grey parrots or any big sized bird should be in a small cage where they donât even have the opportunity to fly. Why do you allow a ridiculous amount of people to go into the budgie cage to feed them, while budgies are walking around on the floor looking for food? I literally witnessed today a kid trying to grab and scare off one of the birds and your staff did absolutely nothing despite them seeing it? Thereâs kids screaming and running around and Iâm sure incidents have happened when these small animals have been stepped on. The bunny and pigeon cages are just as bad and in poor condition with dirty water and feces all over the floor. You have two big donkeys in a small pen with a sign that says they might bite but have full on access to the point that they can pretty much take out their whole heads for people to touch and pet? Most of these animals donât live in the best conditions. The only animals who had it decent were the goats as some where free roamed and pretty much have connected enclosures throughout the park. But for some reason the poor birds are the ones who have it the worse by either being in small cages despite their size or mixed in with other species that could potentially cause stress and illnesses. This is why this isnât an actual ethical zoo but a place for the people where animals can be exploited for profit cuz hey itâs a great idea to teach kids to touch animals even if the animal does not want to be touched for a quick...
