They have such a large collection of things! the decorations are wonderful and there are little jokes hidden throughout the store. the service is always friendly and amazing. I had to update my review after going to the Grady Hendrix event on 1/28/23. The entire staff went above and beyond to make sure that I'd be able to make the event and that I'd be comfortable. Even the customers I interacted with were so kind to me and understanding. I dislocated my ankle 2 weeks before the event, but I was determined to do everything I could to meet one of my favorite authors. I had no idea the event would be so packed and when I arrived there was absolutely no parking, let alone handicap parking. I called the store to explain and see if I could pay for a signed book over the phone. Instead they let me park in their loading zone so I could make it. Now I walk in, the place is packed and there's two gigantic lines out the door. One to pick up reserved and prepaid books, the other to pay for said book. I unfortunately ended up in the wrong line after standing for 20 minutes and had to switch lines. At this point I'm in pain, I had to skip on taking pain killers so I could drive the car. And then the kindest lady next to me waves down a staff member to take my payment for the book so I can be seated. I was hesitant at first but both of them convinced me. This is where I started getting teary from all the kindness. That same staff member than walks me to the front where they have accessible seating. He leads so I don't have to fight the crowd with my crutches. I was so worried about being an inconvenience but the people we passed were so kind. So I'm seated for a few minutes reading my new book, when I realize I left my phone in my car. Another staff member sees the panic in my face and then offers to go get my phone in my car. I have never had so much kindness shown to me in a short amount of time and I'm doing my best not to happy weep. After Mr. Hendrix speaks the staff then leads everyone who needed seating ( thank god I wasn't the only one ) to the front so they can get their book signed without standing too long. In short, the world can be awful sometimes. People can be awful sometimes. But these people are good and I will always be grateful on how they went above and...
Read moreThis business is a powerhouse and legendary in many corners of the literal and binary universe. Not sure how they manage to maintain amazing stock, but I say without a doubt RBD is one of the best out there.
As for the reasons why I am saying this I will keep it cryptic and vague so you potentially figure it out for yourself and make it a destination whether you are a resident or native to DTX or you’re just driving through. We need to keep places like this thriving and successful, thereby rewarding and championing eclectic and superior musical tastes, and lifting them to the top of the pile.
All too many times, I go to places like this looking to find, if not a treasure trove or resale oasis, maybe just an unbelievable find as the result of countless shelves of crate digging.
More often than not, I find myself being hypnotized by so many mistreated copies of The Moody Blues, ELO, Peter Frampton, Rod Stuart etc wafting plumes of moldy garage/attic space stink. You know what I mean, the kind where you take the record out of the sleeve to check it out and there’s so many hairlines and indents and the place has the nerve to charge you 30.00 for an unplayable bargain bin record that should cost not more than .99 cents even in this inflated age.
This place is the antithesis of that drab nightmare, although it wouldn’t be resale if there wasn’t a few attic aged specimens before the greater population of music lovers realized that LPs shouldn’t be stored in the infamous southern heat & humidity that causes a lethal case of swampass even from the toughest of cookies.
I digress, if you’re still reading this word soup: WHY?! I think I have told you everything you need to know if you’re debating whether you should check it out.
P.S. The answer is a resounding...
Read moreRecycled is one of my favorite places in Denton. I've been coming here for years with my wife and there's always something interesting to find. They also pay very well for what they buy off of you. My biggest and almost only gripe is that it is an incredibly inaccesible store for wheelchair users. As other reviews have said the upstairs and downstairs are completely out of bounds and the back area past the pagan section has very tight corners that are incredibly hard to navigate. It's also difficult to go down the CD aisles because of the boxes sometimes, and there are frequently stepstools in random aisles that pose an obstacle. You're pretty limited to the main floor and the area immediately down the ramp. This however is also a bit hard to navigate at certain turns (once you make it down the sci fi aisle the vinyl shelves make a corner narrow and you may have to turn back depending on how wide your chair is), and within the last year they also added another vinyl shelf near the ramp which makes it harder to get past when there's people browsing and harder to get back up if you need room for a bit of a headstart up the ramp to build momentum. I say all of this because I do truly love and value this store, and I want people to visit. But what I don't want is for someone to get a nasty surprise since the accessibility of locations like this is not often discussed. So, I hope that this helps anyone who has considered going but was unsure about the accessibility decide whether it's somewhere they would like...
