If I was grading you on potential you'd get 5 stars, but since you're still a long ways away from achieving that potential, you're only getting 3 because of my experience with you.
Don't get the wrong idea, you guys definitely got a lot more going on than any other haunt in the Des Moines area, and you're definitely on the right tract to having something truly special going on, but I myself have been quite spoiled because I usually go to the Full Moon Production haunts in Kansas City, or the Scarefest haunts in St. Louis, so when I shelled out almost $20, which is the same price I paid for the Kansas City Beast (and that was with the line-cut pass) last year, I was expecting a lot more than what I got with you guys.
You might want to think about lowering your prices for a couple years until you build up a larger clientele, as well as build your reputation at this new location. You most likely would have easily tripled the amount of people going through the haunt this year if you were only charging $10, and the customers probably would've had a much better time if the ticket cost didn't hurt their pocket so much. Yes I also realize that places like Sleepy Hollow were charging like $30 this year to do everything (which you guys were still 5 times better than the low-level stuff they do there), but you also gotta realize that they have been doing some kind of haunted attraction at that location for over 20 years now (same goes for Linn's), so people are going to go pay their prices no matter what.
Well... that's just my suggestion. But from one haunted house enthusiast to another = If I'm going to have to drop $20 for a decent haunted house experience, I'm going somewhere I know always performs (Kansas City is only 3 hours away). I might give you guys another shot in a few years, and if you do better, hopefully I can change my review, until then, best of...
Read moreMy husband and I traveled all the way from Kansas City to visit The Slaughter House. We ordered tickets online and upon our arrival we were able to go right in. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the friendly staff and the fact they split us up into groups. We wore a mask because we were in close quarters at times with others. You are able to take pictures outside however, once inside you are not able to use your cell phone. I highly recommend you not take any handheld items because you will have to walk through some rough areas. Furthermore, you will have actors jumping out at you and you don't want to be caught off guard and drop something in the dark. The atmosphere was creepy and exciting. Loud noises (screaming, banging, flash pops etc.) is part of the tour therefore, if you're sensitive to loud noises you may need to bring some earplugs. The whole experience took us about 20 minutes and we enjoyed it. My favorite character is the one in the picture I uploaded (he was the best dressed in my opinion). Parking can be a hassle so I recommend you get there at least 20 minutes early so you can find a good parking spot. Overall, we certainly enjoyed ourselves and we will definitely make this a yearly trip...
Read moreWhen we arrived at the Slaugherhouse at 7:00 PM we were told that the line would take approximately an hour to get through so we decided not to upgrade to the fast pass since an hour didn't seem too extreme and we wanted to save some money. We waited TWO AND A HALF HOURS in line and when we finally did get inside, the entire tour only lasted 12 minutes (we made sure to time it as we were extremely frustrated with having to wait over double the amount of time we were originally told). Yes, the props they used were great but I expect more out of a $20 ticket. I've read some responses below stating that there are "emergency exits" that shorten the route and in my opinion, these should not be accessible by patrons unless they specifically ask one of the employees to escort them out early. There needs to be a better process for getting people through instead of just letting the fast pass line in in front of everyone else. So if you're reading this and are planning to go on a Friday or Saturday, prepare to pay $30 for the fast pass or wait in line for an uncomfortably long...
