Saugatuck Douglas History Center-Downtown Douglas — Attraction in Douglas

So impressed with the Old School House! We didn't know if we'd be able to see anything on a Thursday in October but the whole yard is open to enjoy. So much great info to look at and such beautiful grounds. Peach trees, info about the school house building, thoughtful signage about the original Native American residents of the area and their impacts. There's a display about the camps (as a former attendee of the presbyterian camps I wasn't expecting to see this, wonderful and touching) as well as the Saugatuck Douglas totem with another very thoughtful sign that recognizes it's history and also why it is problematic. Gorgeous garden, and then a fascinating exhibit about much of Lake Michigan's maritime history and the life saving boats like the one displayed. Seriously, this museum totally wowed me with it's quality and thoughtfulness, thank you for sharing...

Everyone who comes to this area should put this on top of their to-do list. Absolutely professional and pertinent displays and volunteers who really do know so much about the rich history...
