My friends and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Borrowed Time Restaurant in Douglas, MI, and I can confidently say that it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Eight of us gathered for a delightful afternoon of great food, craft drinks, and wonderful ambiance, making it a day we won't soon forget.
As we settled into the outdoor seating area, we were immediately drawn to the charming and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant's setup with outdoor seating and games created the perfect backdrop for a laid-back summer evening with friends. We were there during the day this time, next time we will go in the evening and enjoy the live music. The warm and welcoming staff added to the overall inviting vibe, making us feel right at home.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show - the food. The diverse menu offered a range of tempting dishes, and we decided to sample a variety to get a taste of everything Borrowed Time had to offer. Our choices included the Thai Gnocchi, Skirt Steak, Crab Cakes, and Scallops.
The Thai Gnocchi was a revelation - an innovative twist on a classic dish. The combination of flavors was both surprising and satisfying, leaving us eager for more. The Skirt Steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy with a delectable charred exterior. The Crab Cakes were a delightful blend of sweet and savory, showcasing the chef's skill in crafting seafood dishes. And let's not forget the Scallops - a mouthwatering masterpiece that had us savoring every bite.
To complement our meal, we indulged in the craft drinks on offer. Each concoction was expertly crafted, bursting with unique flavors that pleased our palates. Borrowed Time's drink selection is sure to impress even the most discerning of imbibers.
The best part? Despite the top-notch quality of both the food and drinks, we were pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the prices were. Borrowed Time Restaurant truly offers great value for the culinary experience it provides.
The friendly service, the exceptional food, the craft drinks, the delightful outdoor seating, and the fun games all contributed to an unforgettable afternoon. It's no surprise that each one of us left with a sense of anticipation and a unanimous desire to return soon.

Read moreThis was my favorite restaurant for the entire trip. I’ve eaten all around the world and at Michelin restaurants, and this restaurant is a winner! The menu is unique. I ate pickled grapes for the first time….and they were delicious. The name Pickled Grapes doesn’t do the dish justice. There is a sweet element to the pickled flavor which made it very interesting to my palette. I also had a Bulgogi and the food combination and presentation on the Bulgogi was absolutely delicious. I’ve been to Korea and and have eaten Korean cuisine there and in the USA, but never expected for Korean cuisine to “pop” with flavor when putting it in my mouth. This chef has added incredible flavor to the palette on the entire menu. What makes this eating experience like a Michelin experience is that the restaurant and staff are unassuming, almost a bit understated. Highly recommend and take your time. Also, the Espresso is good here which I had to finish my meal. If you are a foodie and looking for a new experience; eat here…and it’s ok to drag your partner along with you regardless of their...
Read moreI wish I could have tried this restaurant, but I was immediately greeted with negative energy from our soon to be server.
The sign out front said seat yourself. I was with my fiance and another couple, and we had wanted to sit on one of the nice outdoor couch sets - but would've required some arrangement.
The server must have heard us talking about rotating one chair to face one another, and she immediately ushered us over to another area in an annoyed and stern attitude.
After doing this she proceeded to talk to another group about us like I couldn't hear her, telling them we were trying rotate stuff, and laughing about it. I confronted her, and got a short snarky answer and another rude remark about where my seat was going to be.
I replied, it says seat yourself so thank you for making this a forced situation.
I dont like leaving 1 star reviews, and that's why I went into depth because this is so unacceptable. You lost a customer, and hopefully more.
