A friend and I visited this museum after brunch on a Saturday. It was not busy. There was a short wait due to a party being given a tour ahead of us. Our tour guide was a young man who was very friendly and knowledgeable. He provided alot of information and stories about the items. We had some laughs and good conversation. The museum has several different rooms showcasing different aspects of Douglas County. The museum covers all the history and more. The place is bigger than I thought. Nice place to visit.

Cool museum with lots of history. This is my childhood home town that I left 23 years ago. It is cool to return and see the old courthouse. I just wish the tour was self guided so I could spend more time looking at exhibits instead. I'd hearing some one explain everything. Our guide was knowledge, but I would rather go on my own.

Very cool museum. Dad got adopted here and it has tons of history. Very many artifacts make it a can't miss stop. Nice lady toured us around and told us the history.

One of Douglasville's underrated gems. I've driven by several times and thought what exactly could they have in there? Well It's bigger than it looks and more to see then you the think. It really is a local history museum with artifacts donated from prominent local families. The Black History Education collection was small, but very telling about the education system as it relates to POC in Douglasville. I really hope more families come forward and donate more than just educational heirlooms to tell more about the history on people of color in Douglasville. There also is a very small (extremely small) Native American Indian section. So hopefully more families will also donate more to improve that exhibit. The pop cultural collections are a must see!! I love that you had a tour guide. She was lovely and we felt like we were getting a behind the scenes personal tour. If you are a homeschool group or looking for something free to do with the kiddos this is a great...

If you're even slightly curious about history or art, you HAVE TO VISIT THIS PLACE! The older gentleman who works here is an absolute gem. He's not just knowledgeable—he’s incredibly passionate! His sense of humor and eagerness to answer every single one of your questions make the experience unforgettable. Seriously, it’s like having your own personal historian!

The museum itself? Spotless. Well-organized. Super family-friendly. And guess what? IT'S COMPLETELY FREE! Yep, no charge at all for a treasure trove of history and art.

I can’t wait to come back for more stories—they feel endless, and I love every second of it. If you love history (or even if you don’t—yet), this place is a must-see!

Five stars isn’t enough! 🌟 Go now—you...

Head a similar distance northwest rather than northeast and instead of downtown Atlanta you’ll cross the county border and reach the heart of Douglasville.

The county seat of Douglas County, this city is home to another important museum, dedicated to history and art.

The Douglas County Museum of History and Art doesn’t disappoint from the very start, since it can be found in a former courthouse that is a rare example of architecture’s ‘international style’.

Inside, the displays cover every aspect of the county’s history, with information on how European-American settlement first began in the region in the early 1800s leading to historic memorabilia from the early days...
