If I could leave a review with negative stars, it would be more accurate. Our family moved to Douglas County and one of the first things we did was get a library card. I specifically asked if reminder notices for upcoming book due dates were sent via email, and was assured they were.
For a busy family with 3 special needs children, getting email notification is an essential tool.
I was repeatedly frustrated to return books and learn that there were fines. Not little fines; fines of $30-$60+.
Every time I would explain that we were not getting email notification re: due date reminders and ask the library staff to double check my email address. Every time, they would assure me it was correct.
After the 4th or 5th time, I explained to the head librarian at Dog River library our situation and asked her to look into it. She replied "I have a special needs child myself, but I don't use him as an excuse for why I have overdue books!" She was so unprofessional, with such an ugly attitude. I spoke with someone on the board and they commented that they had received several similar comments about her.
Later, a volunteer (!) actually checked my email address on file (the very thing I had asked staff to do every time there was a fine) and she found one letter missing from the email address. It had been input improperly, and it cost our family $100+ in fines that Douglas County Library has not seen fit to rectify.

Read moreI am so thankful for this library. My husband and I live in Morrow, Georgia, which is in Clayton County, but my husband has been assigned to work in Douglasville at Douglas Commons as a security officer. His shift is 3 to 10 pm, M-F. Because he has cataracts and cannot drive at night, I bring him to work and wait until his shift is over so I can drive him home. This would be a very unfortunate situation except for this library and my being able to spend some of the time here. The staff has been very accommodating and extremely helpful and friendly. I am sure they wonder why this lady comes to the library and stays until it is closing on most days but they are a godsend. For the person who spoke negatively about the staff, I wish you would come back and give them another chance because they always meet me with a smile and answer any questions I might have. I have always loved reading and books so this is the perfect place for me to pass the time while waiting for my husband to leave work. Thank you...

Today I was in the library and was doing my tax return on line, After I finish I walked out and left all my tax infomation in the computer room. I realize several hours later that I did not have my folder with the tax information. I panic, I pick up my phone to call the Library but it was close I saw that a voice mail message alert on my cell phone and ironically it was a libraian from the "DCL" who left a message informing me that I had left my tax information in the computer room and that I could pick the papers up at the front desk. It was such a relief to know that my papers were found. I want to thank the Douglas County Libray for contacting me and keeping the tax paper at the front desk for me to pick up.
