Red River State Recreation Area — Attraction in East Grand Forks

Such a nice spot to camp! The hosts were helpful and friendly. They were waiting on some final documents from the city to open the shower but they let us in with a disclaimer to not drink any of the water because they didn’t have the final papers for potability. We stayed on an electric only site. There was so much to do in walking distance.

Cost: $30-$45/night Privacy: limited/nonexistent Ease of access: very easy Views/Scenery: this campground is in a large town, near a road, but the campground itself has a large green space and a flood barrier berm so there is a bit of nature to be seen. It also sits next to a large river. There are paved walkways that follow the river, and allow bikes to be ridden. Cell reception: very good- 4-5 bars on Cricket wireless Crowded: we were here the first week it was opened after winter, so there were very few others around. The campground hosts said it gets pretty busy and they get full many weekends. Noise: this should be a definite consideration if you plan to stay here. It is (like I said) in a large town and the campground is adjacent to a busy road, so you will have daytime road noise. The fire station is just on the other side of the flood berm so every time they go out on a call, you’re going to have sirens. It happened frequently the 3 days we stayed here. Also, there is a city warning alarm that they run a test on during the day (it lasted about 60 seconds on a Wednesday around lunch). It’s very loud and you shouldn’t expect to be able to sleep through their test, if you’re a day sleeper. It's beautiful it's close to home they're lovely walking trails biking trails hiking trails you. In the spring when they're getting everything cleaned up you can often see a bunch of deer hanging out there. I have been told there's 125 year old tree I tried wrap my hands around it no way they could even see me in the picture it was fun I just love walking there and seen God's beautiful creation the leaves changing Colors and every time of their seasons it is truly breathtaking the sun going up the sun coming down clouds around it is beautiful climbing the dike that's hard going down is equally hard but if you're up for the challenge go for it. I often use these area for A game my relatives and I have created when we can't be close can you guess where I am and my bird. It's just some way of bringing us...

5 year update: new RV, new review. This is officially my favorite place to camp. Even when it's full, there is still a ton of space between campers. And even though it's in the middle of town, it is still quiet (except on Friday rights when there are races at the fairgrounds just up the road).

Update: Second visit, first in an RV. Loving this place more and more. Huge campsites, many are easy pull-throughs. This is the only MN state park or rec area I know of with sewer connections.

Like camping in somebody's back yard, because that's literally what it used to be before the flood. Very grassy and flat, large spaces, great for tenting, but almost no cover and some city noises. Clean facilities. Nice place, just don't expect a very...
