It's strange to be writing a negative review of this bar as until last night, it was our default place to go eat and relax. This is an example of one very bad egg spoiling an entire experience. We've been patrons of this bar since moving very close several months ago. The food is generally good and the drinks are up to standard.
On January 3rd, late close to last call a long haired woman was working at the bar who we hadn't seen before. She was judgmental and rude. She asked my partner if he wanted another drink. That's her job. However, when he answered no, she unnecessarily commented 'good.' He didn't like this response so he changed his mind and ordered a beer. When he left, he clearly heard her calling him a 'pompous ass.' He looked back but said nothing and left.
Here's the thing. In the service industry you meet nice people, boring people, and even nasty people. The nasty and disruptive people can be asked to leave. However, at no point are personal insults ever appropriate. As far as I perceived, he was pleasant and appropriate. Still, this gem that the management of this establishment chose to represent them felt she could be rude and insulting.
In the hyper competitive restaurant/bar business, is this a recipe for success? I think not and can certainly use the few extra steps to go...
Read moreDISCRIMINATION. I have a disability. I suffer from severe food allergies with anaphylaxis. I have a task-trained service animal, a 10-pound miniature poodle that detects anaphylaxis approximately a minute and a half before I suffer an attack. Before we entered the restaurant, the assistant manager said no animals were allowed on the patio. We showed his papers, and she said with attitude that he had to be well behaved or we would get kicked out. As we were sitting, my dog was standing next to me. The assistant manager immediately came over and said that my dog had to sit down or she would have to kick us out. “Your dog has to be well-behaved, and so do you or you have to leave.” I said I didn’t want to eat there due to her attitude, and she immediately started yelling, telling me I am banned from the restaurant. “A lifetime ban!” I asked her name, and she screamed it and that she is the assistant manager. She made an unbelievable scene. I cannot believe the horrible attitude — and the contrasting EXCELLENT attitude we were faced with at The Toasted Toad. (Our waitress who immediately greeted us, a petite redhead,...
Read moreHad an awesome experience here. We sat at the bar and through the course of the night interacted with three different bartenders. Each was friendly and easy to talk to. They recommended we have the Monday night special which is any of their specialty burgers for $5. Hubs had the Jalapeno Cheese Curd burger and I had the Bacon and Egg burger - they were amazing. The burgers were cooked perfectly and the thick bacon was crispy without being overcooked. My egg yolk was runny and made a rich sauce for the burger just like it was supposed to! The bartenders suggested we have the waffle fries with peppercorn gravy on the side and were we glad we did! I would never order waffle fries normally, but these were SO good. The gravy was magical. On top of all this, we had a few cocktails and our total bill was only $30...we had two drinks across the street and they cost that much!! Overall, really happy with this place and the people. Made us out of towners feel like we...
