New Haven Academy of Performing Arts — Attraction in East Haven

I usually submit my review once I've completed a class in full, but I simply could not wait this place is so fantastic, its one of the best investments I've ever made! Billy and Lara are incredible people and this place is more than just a spot to get lessons. The adult acting class is a highlight of my week- I have made friends and each session I am blown away by how quickly my peers are advancing in skill (I seriously can't stop smiling when watching everyone perform.) I am kicking myself I didn't do this years ago, it's shocking how amazing I feel since starting this class; I have more confidence, my speech is more clear, it has helped my anxiety, I have a deeper appreciation for actors & performers, and I feel like I have a truer connection between my body/voice and my mind- also most importantly I have SO MUCH FUN (I haven't felt like this since I was a kid!) Lara Morton is such an exceptional instructor- she is kind, funny, genuine, not afraid to give real feedback but in a way that is so beautifully constructive- she is a TRUE PROFESSIONAL- I'm not kidding she knows her stuff, her notes, tips and lessons are all nuggets of gold, every class my mind is blown (which is hard to do for me because I can be quite skeptical!) Anyone who has children who may have some interest they would love to explore in the musical or theatrical world, def check this place out! My daughter joined last year for one summer camp and her entire life has thereafter completely transformed throughout the year with the growth, skills, and immense passion she has developed for performing on stage and as a confident person in general. She now takes many classes and various kinds of lessons throughout the year as she has found her “home”. At NHAOPA, the focus is on making kids into amazing human beings, and they surely surpass that goal. My daughter went from coming home almost daily from school with various individuals bullying her, to now a confident child who can withstand her own caring less for those lacking individuals who had nothing better to do 💗💗💗 Bianca absolutely loves, looks up to, and cherishes her teachers and speaks/brags about them daily to anyone’s ear she can grab. E (2017) and A (2018) have grown so much in this program. They are now singing, acting, playing the piano, and dancing. Their movements are elegant. Their confidence in all activities has increased in ways I could never imagine. I love to see the excitement in their faces when it is time to go to class. The teachers hold them accountable for the skillsets they are learning as well as how they are doing in school academically. They enjoy their life long friends as well. What a wonderful place for my children to grow, learn, and become role models and leaders. I appreciate the safety precautions that are in place to keep this small business open during Covid. My children needed this home away from home and we are thankful. ❤️❤️❤️
