Whether your looking for vintage gear or something new Gold Sound offers a unique experience. This is a great place to check out some different gear. Upon entry there is a large variety of vintage equipment. If you didn't know better you might think there are not any new items but that is only due to it being set up in the listening rooms.
I really enjoy the variety, as personally I like both vintage and new gear. One of the best parts is that Ron and Dave are very knowledgeable about a large variety of gear and enjoy sharing what they know. If you happen to go at a less busy time you can definitely talk shop. As others have mentioned it can be helpful to go at a less busy time. On one occasion when it was less busy I was able to try out out some equipment I was interested in with my own DAC. That experience showed me that I actually would like a different type of equipment that I had assumed I would not like. Its helpful to know what you want and communicate it. (Not necessarily a specific piece of equipment but your end goal or Wishlist.) I felt like in that respect I was heard and in the end wound up with something that fit more of my checklist.
It is a business and they do want to sell you something. However I believe that they want you to end up with something that you like and and want to help you find that in the selection available, even when it isn't the most expensive gear in the shop.
Some other shops I tried only heard what piece of equipment I was looking for and then tried to get me interested in their preferred offerings even if it was well out of my range or preferred parameters wasting everyone's time.
Gold Sound is my favorite audio shop. Will it be yours too? Maybe or maybe not. Everyone has different, perceptions and preferences. Take the time to find a shop and some gear you really like. If you are looking for a shop or in the market for some new gear I recommend checking...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm a little late to post, but wanted to share my experience with Gold Sound. I'm a vintage stereo geek and have been aching to pick up a Pioneer RT-909 reel to reel. I had one in the 80s and somehow let it go back then. Anyway, thirsting to get one again, I scoured online for a good example, but did not feel comfortable with the ones that were on offer. So, I paid a visit to Gold Sound, which I had been to in the past. I knew they had the best selection or vintage gear in Denver, period. Anyway, I spoke with Ron who is very knowledgeable about my quest. They had a dozen or more decks in stock and we viewed Revox -A77s,, Teac and other Pioneer models. He had all models of Pioneer decks in stock including the RT-909 and RT-1011L. After weighing the options, Ron hooked up the RT-707 and I was able to get my hands on the deck. It had recently been serviced and Ron also offered a 100-day guarantee. I was sold. It was such a pleasure dealing with Ron and it was such a treat to be able to preview so many options.
Gold Sound not only has a large selection of used and demo gear, but they are a retailer of many new items as well. They carry Parasound, Focal and Grado. I'm now looking for a new turntable. They have a huge selection of new and used tables including Rega, Pro-Ject and VPI. I'm torn between the Rega P3 or P6....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNote the distinct bimodal distribution of reviewer satisfaction. ā¦this place will only work if you want to buy more widely available vintage equipment. Good selection and reasonable prices. However, I discovered that the threshold of reason (i.e., the āgateā) lies between 2238 and 2245. I understand vintage electronics. I understand the risks of owning 55-year-old equipment (and I also understand how to use them in my home). I donāt want a lower powered unit but I got mansplained a bunch of stuff I already know (and I picked up the insinuation that it is my fault that my own 55-year old receiver is ailing). There is tons of beautiful equipment in here but I came to realize that the shopkeeper is also the āgatekeeper.ā I canāt pay upwards of $3,000 for an admittedly nice receiver when I can find 10 different functioning examples online for like $1,100 or $1,200. Iāll risk the shipping damage, thank you. I figured it would be good to see ithe equipment in person and maybe work out a deal or learn somethingā¦alas it was not to be.
P.S. - Donāt even dare ask about someone who can work on vintage equipmentā¦that gate is locked at...
