Came back here again. Today was a Thursday, and my review is much better than the last one. Today was a great day at Six Flags. Most of the restaurants were open. The rides were open, with basically no wait at all. I think the longest we waited was for the next coaster to come back on a roller coasters. You basically just walked on all the rides.
We ate at Foul Ball in the park today. I had nachos, and they were every bit as tasty as they looked! They were pulled pork with cheese and sour cream. They also come with lettuce and jalapeños, but I don't like that so had them make it without.
My fiancée had the chicken fingers and fries. His was also very good. We didn't order at a good lunch hour, so when he ordered they told him that the fries were cold and they would make some hot fries just for him...without him even asking. They were very good and seasoned well too. There was also plenty of ice and drinks in the park, and not long lines for food either. Much cleaner than last time also.
June 5, 2021
We have been Season Pass ticket holders for years except 2020 because of Covid, and waited until today to purchase for 2021 because we didn't want to have to wear masks in the heat. (We are fully vaccinated). You DO NOT have to wear a mask anymore...its supposed to be if vaccinated, but nobody is wearing a mask, there is no social distancing, and there really isn't any sanitation between customers. The tables at the restaurants are disgusting. I had to ask for a wet rag to wipe the table down. We won't even talk about the bathroms.
Today, half the rides were shut down. Pretty much all of the roller coasters were down either all or most of the day, except for the small roller coasters, but Batman, Screaming Eagle, Boomerang and the main thrill roller coasters, Dragons Wing, as well as quite a few others were either down all or most of the day. Also, they were supposed to open a brand new ride in 2020 called Catwomans Whip and it is nowhere to even be seen. Plus Superman, which was one of the best rides has been completely decommissioned now, but is still standing.
Half of the restaurants were closed, and only 3 restaurants in the entire park were open, which made for almost an hour wait. They were supposed to stay open until the park closed, but everything closed an hour early except for the ice cream parlor and hamburger/chicken fingers place (I think it's called Collossus) right inside the front gate. They were the only one still open, and the line was absolutely insane., and at least 20 people waited at least 45 minutes and got turned away at the end because they stopped serving.
They were out of ice everywhere in the entire park. I'm diabetic and can't do sugar free soda because of the artificial sweetner, they had nothing sugar free anywhere, except warm water. You could buy cold bottled water for $6 a bottle.
They used to be open 10a-Midnight. Now they don't open till 10:30a and the latest they stay open is 9pm, but not that often. Make sure to check before you go. Most nights is 6p, 7p, or 8p. Even on weekends....and thats even summer hours.
Positives: The staff was working their butts off, but were all extremely professional and super friendly, and all had a smile on their face...even though I'm pretty positive they were extremely short staffed. The food that I did eat was very good. The lines for the rides were not terrible. The patrons were also surprisingly friendly as well. We did not encounter any rude people at all. They also had fireworks at the end of the night tonight, and I think they do on the occasional nights they stay open till 9pm.
We have never had these problems here before. As of today's date, they have season passes on sale for $49.99 each, which includes parking, which is normally $25 to park. And you can add a meal pass, which includes 1 meal and 1 snack every visit for $39.99 which each meal is at least $14 and each snack is at least $6....so if you go 1x all of that...
Read moreWe visited Six Flags St Louis (SFSL) twice on the way to and from Branson from Indy for a 7 day stay. On 5/25 & 5/31. We did 3 days at Silver Dollar City (SDC). We have Six Flags Gold Passes.
I’m a coaster head so that is always my main focus. Condition, operations and most importantly, ride experience. But I also pay attention to cleanliness, people flow, employees, snacks and the app. I rarely eat when I ride. I may get some fries or homemade chips. Aka snacks.
Apples & Tomatoes: I’m not going to compare the two parks because they are totally different types of parks. SDC is a true period theme park. SFSL is an amusement park. And they offer totally different experiences. It’s pointless to me to compare the two.
Negative Reputation: SFSL has developed a bad online reputation over the years. SFSL & Six Flags America receive the worst comments of any parks I’ve been to. I hadn’t visited since 2010, so I couldn’t really verify if they were accurate. After my 2 recent visits, I can say a few were deserved (minimal corporate investment). While most others were not. For example, me and my wife both noticed how clean SFSL is. I’ve read just the opposite.
Park Overall: Very clean! Restrooms, grounds, landscaping. Park flow and navigation is easy. The employees were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We passed a Caricature stand right after entering the park that was closed and we asked a nearby employee if they were going to open. They said noon, so my wife waited while I continued to ride. It opened a few minutes before noon. The app was very good. Wait times and ride open status were very good. Navigation worked very well most of the time. I had to close/reopen the app a couple of times after it couldn’t determine my location. I have The Platinum Flash and that site worked great. Park WiFi was good both days.
Coasters: Of the 11 coasters, I rode 10. (I skipped Fireball) I don’t do Larson Loops. Standouts: American Thunder (great forces & pacing), Mr Freeze (acceleration & hang time), Pandemonium (mad fun), Boss (great layout) and Rookie Racer(fun family ride) were all great! Batman and Boomerang were very good! Okay, The Boss! I’ve heard nothing but bad things about it. Is it rough, yes. But woodys are supposed to be! There are a couple very rough spots that need work. But I saw that work has already started. The lift hill & a portion following that looked to be re-tracked. Nice! Same for Scremin Eagle. Needs some work. But neither is worse than American Eagle, Hurler or Grizzly. The final two are classic Arrows. Which are always janky in a fun way. Ninja & Mine Train. These old Arrows would not be cost effective to rework. And I don’t think they are any worse than any other old Arrows out there.
Just to add. I was very impressed with the condition of Mr Freeze. Considering it’s age. It wouldn’t be if not cared for. Upkeep: Another frequent online complaint. This was my first time riding it. It was down when I last visited in 2010.
Operations were good throughout the park. Hopefully investment will improve with the recent merger. Or possibly get some relocated rides from the closing Six Flags America. I think Superman/Ride of Steel would be a great addition if it’s up for relocation. It may be close to the end of its service life.
Final Thoughts: The overwhelming negative comments I’ve seen over the years are either not accurate or have been addressed. Every park has issues. My few were very minor. Is SFSL the top park in the chain? No. Is it at the bottom? Also no. I had a great time both days. And I think you will too! (My wife didn’t come in on 5/25 due to the rain.) It didn’t stop me or the rides! We will definitely be back! Keep up the good...
Read moreWe just got home from what we thought would be a fun day taking our son to Six Flags for the first time. Having been to the park in the past without having issues and being able to ride all of the rides, we were unaware of the fact that this time would be different. After riding a couple of rides, my son and husband got in line to ride Pandemonium. They got inside one of the cars and were buckled when a staff member came over and told my husband that he had to have two legs to ride the ride. My husband has a prosthetic leg. He mentioned that he has been on the ride before without a problem. She asked him to remove his prosthetic, conversed with another staff member, and then told them they would have to get off. After this, we went to the wheelchair and stroller rental area to speak to someone. They gave us a pink sheet of paper with a list of the rides that he can and cannot ride. Pandemonium was on the list as one that he CAN ride. The nice man there apologized and called for someone else to come speak with us. That gentleman also apologized and said he would go speak to the staff and that we would not have the problem if we went back to try again. After consoling my son who wanted to leave the park, we eventually went back to try one more time. Again, they were sitting in a car and buckled when they were rudely told to leave the ride AGAIN. This time, I told them to go play some games and went back to speak with someone myself. A different man came to speak with me this time and said that my husband would have to get a harness to ride most of the rides since he does not have both appendages. This was not mentioned to us the first time. When I asked him to describe the harness to me, he described it as one that is used for mountain climbing. I said, "So basically he would be clipped into the car with the harness?" At first, I thought they were concerned about his prosthetic coming off, but that wasn't the case. My husband is missing his leg from the calf down, so technically he has both appendages. If he would've worn pants, we never would have encountered these issues. Anyway, I was given two cards to bypass the line for two rides of our choice like that would make everything better. The pink sheet we were given earlier did the exact same thing. Anyway, we decided to try two more rides that we knew wouldn't be a problem (The Rivers Edge and The Log Flume). When we were getting ready to board the first one, we noticed a man trying to pick up a woman out of her wheelchair to get her on the raft. She was unable to walk on her own, and he was struggling to get her on while the staff stood and watched. My husband stepped up to help, and they were able to carry her on the ride together. We spoke to this sweet couple during the ride and found out that she used to be an employee at the park. Seriously?! Not a single person stepped up to help her or call for help. The cute couple spoke about the rollercoasters they were planning to ride next. I at least hope that their day of fun was fulfilled. However, I can't help but wonder if she was able to ride the rollercoasters. If so, I have a lot of questions. Anyway, we walked to the next ride which was shut down due to technical difficulties. By this time, we were so emotionally drained from the rigamarole and disappointment we encountered over and over again, that we decided three hours of spending way too much money for this negative experience was enough. Six Flags, you need to take a good look at your policies regarding prosthetics and other disabilities and realize that your blanketed statements should not be universal as not all prosthetics and disabilities...
