So BLAND! Oh my gosh, it was terrible. Appetizer that we ordered was the crispy brussel sprouts. Two main entrees were Seitan Marsala & Thai peanut noodles.
Brussel sprouts- just okay. We added salt. For some reason the brussel sprouts are served on a bed of raw cabbage?? What’s the point of that? It was so bland and sort of strange to serve mini cooked cabbages (basically what brussel sprouts are) ontop of raw shredded cabbage… weird culinary choice but ok.
Seitan Marsala. The “beef” pieces were decent- but they were overly salted. This was probably the only component of our meals that was actually seasoned but unfortunately it was overly salty. The mushrooms dont seem to be cooked with the seitan beef, rather it tasted like the seitan and mushrooms were cooked separately and then tossed together at the end. The mushrooms were a little sweet with some dried herbs on them, while the seitan was savory and overly salted. Again, weird culinary choice, it’s just not cohesive. Why not braise the mushrooms with the “beef” sort of like a traditional Marsala? It’s just wasn’t good. The mushrooms and the “beef” pieces didn’t work well together, and they should have. Served with the most bland sweet potato mash and mushy white rice, and blanched green beans- no seasoning on any of this.
Peanut noodles- plain bland tofu, mushy rice noodles, mild peanut sauce.
None of the food was inedible, it just wasn’t good, and it became completely unappetizing after a few bites so we brought leftovers home. (Made it very easy to not over eat, so I guess that’s good ? Lol) We will eat the leftovers for the sake of not wasting food, but honestly terrible food. I’m weirded out by these five stars reviews, I just can’t even fathom how this place can get to five stars based on our experience today. Sub par is an understatement.
The place reminded me of a fake restaurant set from a 90s sitcom, too.
Service was great, establishment seemed clean. Food sucked, bland and mushy! Straight up just save your money, do not go here....
Read moreI used to love this place, was a great place to grab some great vegetarian/vegan food that was full of flavor and didn't feel too heavy. So the last few times my fiance and I had been there, the prices were higher, the quality was lower, and the service was awful. The potstickers appetizer we order felt unimaginative and tasted very bland. It then took 30-40 min to get our entrées, after watching people who arrived after us receiving theirs first. When they did finally arrive, they were tepid. The sweet potatoe fries were limp from sitting, the blind faith burger was dry, and her bowl was just not good. So, after eating what we could stomach, we waited close to an hour for our check, or for our waiter to check on us. Oh, the kicker? They were not busy, just lazy and/or unorganized and the manager seemed annoyed that we complained about our experience, acted like we somehow were interrupting his social time to let him know of some of the issues we had encountered at his restaurant. Decided after that to never return to the restaurant, as there are better, cheaper, friendlier options not too far away and well worth the extra car time to avoid bf at any cost. Amazingly, I did order the burger once since through some delivery service and it was at my door in less than 10 mins - which is about how long it takes to drive from there to here..... suspicion began to sink in. The burger I received was frozenish in the middle, fries were nuked, and it became evident that they were either premade and frozen, or just frozen premade foods. Tested my theory, bought a bunch of different frozen veg burgers, Dr. Praeger was close, but qrunch burgers were spot on, they were the bf burger. The kicker? I didn't have to pay $13 to have one, I paid $5 or $6 bucks for four premade frozen burgers. Blind faith has gone downhill in a major way, and their letting their customers down and their reputation flounder to the point...
Read moreMy husband and I found ourselves in Evanston on a cold Tuesday evening. Being vegetarian, I looked up "vegetarian friendly" places and out popped "Blind faith Cafe"!
We drove up to it and as we walked in I thought to myself, "what an elegant and cozy restaurant". The lighting was good, the retro booths were comfy and overall it had a romantic vibe to it.
We ordered a couple of appetizers as we were just looking to snack on something before our next stop (a networking event). We got the flautas, the risotto cakes (basically arancini) and the warm onion guyere tart. For drinks we ordered the cosmopolitan, a pomegranate based cocktail and for dessert we got cheesecake.
The flautas were golden and crispy, the dip they came with was tangy and delicious but I felt like they could have had more in terms of filling. Towards the last bite it did kind of feel like we were just eating rolled up brick pastry (the pastry used to make spring rolls)
The risotto cakes were good and we're served in a marinara sauce along with a salad. Crispy on the outside and cheesy on the inside.
My favorite was the onion tart - the most delicious tart I've ever had and I'd go back just for it. It's a must try at this restaurant!
My drink was great - well balanced, not too sweet with a touch of sour.
I can't really fault the cheesecake. We quite enjoyed except for the base, I found it way too stodgy.
The service was good:)
Overall a wonderful restaurant for vegetarians with so much to...
