(PLEASE BRING BACK MALBEC! Normally, I would rate this place over 5 stars! I’ve been coming here very regularly over the past few years (since you were down the street) and I always invite my friends and family because the Malbec Wine and Berries flavor is my favorite! Everyone I’ve invited and also given some servings from home are in love with this flavor (since I always get the largest container to bring home). It’s the reason I come here!! It’s not too sweet and pairs beautifully with the Queso flavor. Many of the flavors are savory but these were perfectly sweet and salty at the same time. It was a bonus because I can’t get it anywhere else!! I can get many of the simpler flavors elsewhere.
I went there this week and the staff broke the news that you’re taking the flavor away and making it a seasonal flavor but they aren’t sure when that is. I am so sad, I actually got choked up. It’s my favorite dessert in Evanston! The lovely staff even remembers my order when I walk in! Anyway, I got the Queso flavor by itself a couple days ago, and it isn’t the same. The honey is too strong and I can’t taste the cheese flavor without pairing it with Malbec. Please bring back the Malbec Wine and Berries flavor!! I know it was one of your original flavors for 4 years and is one of the main Argentinian Gelato flavors. The Lemon Vodka taste is similar to the tarte flavor of the sorbets.
An alternative is maybe mixing Malbec with Queso completely and having a wine and cheese flavor! I feel like that would sell well since many people eat cheese with their wine. All in all, I am so sad it’s gone and will be only coming back to purchase gelato when you have it in. It would also be helpful to have a “flavor forecast” online or on a flyer for those seasonal flavors so I can come by only when you have Malbec in if it isn’t brought back. Thank you...
Read moreWe have been coming here for many years and never have we been so disrespected. Camilla the so called managers behavior was insanely disrespectful. I asked one of the women working here if the gelato had alcohol as I was a first time mom breastfeeding. She said no. So I got said gelato only to realize it did have a heavy alcohol taste. I get back in line to ask the woman who took care of me if I could switch it for another as I don't want to risk while breastfeeding. Camilla then starts to berate me asking me to leave for no valid reason. I informed her I would no longer like to engage with her. She kept calling me names stating I was "entitled" we had my elderly, mother my 4 year old niece, my new born son and my husband. I told her I would not leave until I get a refund or the remainder of my order. The lattes I had ordered tasted horrible as if something malicious had been done to them which can be seen in the video my mom recorded from afar of the entire incident. We left once we received remainder of our order only to have Camilla harass us out the door to our car and take pictures of our license plate. We did go to the police station shortly after and made a report. My mom felt extremely ill from having sipped on her latte. Read moreNOT REALLY ALLERGEN FRIENDLY! Frio Gelato bills itself as allergy friendly. They do a good job of stating their top allergen, but many people have allergens beyond the top allergens. Having contacted Frio multiple times via email, Facebook chat and website chat we received only a couple of responses without directly answering all our questions. We requested a list of ingredients because my son and wife have other allergies that not as common. They refused to provide any list or confirm/deny the allergens we stated in our communication. My wife sent follow up emails with no follow up responses. When we visited the shop In Evanston, we were assured we could read the ingredients in the store. But that was not the case. I tried the gelato which was tasty but my wife and son could not enjoy it because the employees did not have a list and could not provide a list of ingredients. That was huge disappointment and because of that we will not be visiting again. The responses to our emails are few to none with no clear answers.
